The tensor fascia lata muscle is located on the proximal lateral thigh and functions to stabilize the hip and knee joints by inserting onto the ilitotibial tract (IT band) and contracting concentrically to tighten the band.
This muscle originates on the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) and is innervated by the superior gluteal nerve.
Action: Stabilizes the hip in extension
Innervation: superior gluteal n.
Origin: ASIS of the ileum
Insertion: Iliotibial tract/band
