The piriformis muscle can be visualized both from inside and outside of the pelvis. On the posterior surface of the external hip, it is located below the gluteus maximus muscle and the sciatic n. emerges inferior to it.
Action: Lateral rotation of femur
Innervation: L5-S2
Origin: Sacrum
Insertion: Greater trochanter of femur
