CN VII is the facial n., which is best known for innervating the muscles of facial expression via 5 main branches: temporal, zygomatic buccal, mandibular, and cervical. It also carries taste sensation from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue, and contains parasympathetic fibers that innervate the submandibular and sublingual glands, and most of the mucus membranes in the nasal sinuses, nasal cavity, and oral cavity.
