Cricoarytenoid m

The cricoarytenoid mm. attach the cricoid cartilage to the arytenoid cartilages.  There are two cricoarytenoid mm., the posterior cricoarytenoid m. and the lateral cricoarytenoid mm.  The posterior cricoarytenoid m. is a small, thin muscles that abducts the vocal folds, while the lateral cricoarytenoid mm. adduct the vocal folds.  Both are innervated by the recurrent laryngeal n.
