Danger Space

Part of the retropharyngeal space.  Superiorly the danger space of the neck starts at the base of the skull, and runs inferiorly between the alar fascia and the prevertebral fascia.  The space extends through the neck and into the thorax all the way to the diaphragm.  It is referred to as the danger space because an infection in the neck can easily spread into the thorax.
