The mylohyoid m. is a flat, triangular muscle that attaches to the mylohyoid line of the inner mandilbe, meets with the mylohyoid of the other side, and forms the floor of the oral cavity. In addition to meeting with its partner along the midline raphe, the mylohyoid also attaches to the hyoid bone. It is one of the suprahyoid muscles. It is innervated by the mylohyoid n., a branch of CN V3 (which also innervates the muscles of mastication). The action of the mylohyoid will depend on the activity of other muscles that attach to the hyoid bone, so the mylohyoid may elevate the hyoid, or elevate the floor of the oral cavity and the tongue, or it may depress the mandible.
