Parotid salivary gland

The largest of the salivary glands, the parotid gland sits just anterior to the ear.  Parotid literally means “around the ear”.  It’s innervated by parasympathetic fibers of CN IX (the glossopharyngeal n.), and sympathetic fibers from the superior cervical ganglion.
