The paired submandibular ganglia are one of the 4 pairs of parasympathetic ganglia in the head. The submandibular ganglion is suspended from the lingual n. (a branch of CN V3), and receives preganglionic parasympathetic input from the parasympathetic part of the chorda tympani n. ( a branch of CN VII, the facial n.). The post-ganglionic fibers from the submandibular ganglion provide parasympathtic (secretomotor) input to the oral mucosa and the submandibular and sublingual salivary glands.
