Masseter m

One of the 4 paired muscles of mastication, the masseter m. is the “jaw muscle” and produces a visible bulge during contraction.  It originates from the zygomatic arch and the maxilla, and inserts broadly on the coronoid process and ramus of the mandible.  All 4 of the muscles of mastication are innervated by branches of the mandibular n. (CN V3).  The masseter works in concert with other muscles of mastication to elevate the mandible
