The obturator externus muscle is located deep in the medial compartment of the thigh covering the external surface of the obturator foramen.

Action: Lateral rotation of  femur

Innervation: Obturator n.

Origin: Anterior surface of obturator membrane and edges of surrounding bones: inferior pubic ramus and ischium

Insertion: Femur
