A large dural venous sinus that runs along the mid-sagittal plane, along the base of the falx cerebri (where the falx meets the skull). The superior sagittal sinus receives venous blood from cerebral veins, and cerebrospinal fluid through the arachnoid granulations. The superior sagittal sinus runs from the crista galli of the ethmoid bone anteriorly to the junction of the falx cerebri and tentorium cerebelli posteriorly, where it terminates at the confluens of the sinuses.
Anterior oblique view of the right cranial cavity, brain removed to show some of the dural folds and sinuses.
