California is vast and filled with parks. National, State, Regional, City etc. Did you know that California has a larger population than all of Canada?
California also has huge diversity in climates. From deserts, to snow covered mountains, grassy plains, sandy beaches, rocky coasts, river canyons, we even have UNDERWATER PARKS!!!
Think of the way we segment our organization as Russian dolls.
Goes like: Divisions > Districts > Sector > Parks > Campgrounds
We will focus on Districts > Parks > Campgrounds.
There are 4 Divisions: Central Field, Coastal Field, Desert Field, and Northern Field
Each division has several districts.
Each district can have several Sectors.
Sectors can have several Parks. Parks can be classified as an SRA-State Recreational Area, SHP-State Historic Park, SB State Beach, SP State Park, etc.
Parks can contain multiple campgrounds or alternative lodging. (Parks can contain museums or the museum can be stand alone. Not that important for camping, Moreso for tour context)
Parks contain unit types: Tent sites, Hike and Bike, Hook up, Environmental, Group, Cabins etc
Units are assigned #’s this is typically a campsite #.
All of these categories can be found in the outer spatial GIS maps.
