Phillips Collection

This is our favorite book of old time fiddle tunes. Even though it isn't huge, the collection includes about 80% of the tunes we play. The versions tend to be more old timey than those in the Fiddler's Fake Book or the Portland Collection. The songs are written out for violin in classical notation plus chords. The bow marks are particularly insightful. Some of the bowings are quite complicated. Sometimes they are too varied to be played in one take but you can pick and choose to build your own variations. There are no lyrics, unfortunately. For some tunes, there is an alternate version, an alternate title, or an attribution to a particular fiddler.
