What is a stringjam weekend?

For us it is a weekend spent in North River Mills

(recently added to the national registry of historic places!) playing string band music

on the porch of an old inn with professional musicians. It is not a teaching seminar…it

is a weekend to relax and play tunes with a couple of truly great players. Last year Joe

Herrmann made the joke ‘If you learn anything you get your money back!’

Joke…but he made a good point.

Joe Herrmann and Sam Bartlett will be our musical hosts this year. Many of

you know Joe, but Sam may be someone you have yet to have the pleasure to know.

Sam was selected by Joe not only for his vast musical talents

(mandolin and banjo are his instruments)

but also for his sense of fun and enticing grasp of something he calls ‘Stuntology.’

The weekend will begin Friday night and last through early Sunday afternoon. There

will be jams all weekend. Joe will host another ‘singjam’ in the North River Mills

Church. Sam will give us a ‘Stuntology’ show Saturday afternoon. Saturday night Sam

and Joe will give a concert in the church. The church will be lit by gas lanterns and the

mood in there is powerful good. The show will be followed by a dance! Those folks

attending the weekend may dance in the dance, play for the dance or do both. This is a

laid back weekend for those folks who like to play string band music (me! Me!).

A light meal will be offered Friday evening.

Saturday lunch and dinner will be provided.

A Sunday morning brunch will be the final meal of the weekend.
