Get hold of a national and a local newspaper for your news cast.If possible check the news items against two other prestigious papers,for accuracy.See

to it that your news covers the international,national, and local fronts.Then,proceeds to the steps outlined below:

1.Type your story on one side of aconvenient-size index card;

2.Double-space for easy reading;

3.Use upper and lower case letters in typing;

4.In the upper left-hand corner of the index card,type the SLUG of the story.The slug is a one-or two-word description of the story for easy identification,

such as Bank Rob, Company Strike, or Student rally.

5.Put only one story or news item on an index card, and try not to carry a paragraph over from one index card to another;

6.If the news item is long and you really have to use more than one index card, draw an arrow at the bottom of the page

pointing toward the lower right-hand corner.

7.pencil in your IPA ( International Phonetic Alphabet ) transcriptions of words whose pronunciation you're not sure of.

8.Listen to the TAPE of a local newscaster and watch your favorite reporter on TV or turn on the radio for the early morning news.
