Crystal and Ricky have arrived safely from Jamaica. Eddie was on tenterhooks all day imagining all sorts of things going wrong on the journey, but they landed safely at Heathrow and now they’re both resting in the bedroom in the attic that we’ve set up for them. The other loft bedroom, the one that used to be Lucy’s playroom, can double as a sitting room for Eddie and Crystal and a playroom for Ricky. Peter was all for opening up the unused loft area over my study and making them a kitchen and bathroom, but Eddie was very insistent that he didn’t want us to start planning for them to stay here long-term. Peter was disappointed, but probably Eddie’s right. I think a lot of Richard’s problems stemmed from the way new generations of his family all moved in to live with their parents (and grandparents) instead of setting up home independently.
