Trust us to get mixed up in a murder enquiry while we’re supposed to be on holiday! The ferry was just about to dock at Woodside, so I went over to a young Catholic Priest, whom we’d seen getting on at the Pier Head, to remind him that he needed to get off soon. He was leaning on the rail at the front of the boat, right by the flagpole and seemed lost in thought. It turned out, he wasn’t meditating – he was dead! He’d been stabbed through the heart – at least that’s what it looked like, the PM will confirm exactly how he died.
So we spent most of the rest of the day making statements to the police and having our photos taken – and then fending off a reporter from the Echo who wanted to interview us about it all.
The ferry has been taken away for forensic examination – which could take some time, I imagine – and ferry services are suspended for the rest of the day. We eventually managed to get away from all the questions and had a bit of a look round Birkenhead before going back by train.
At least you can’t say our holidays are uneventful!
Here are some pictures from before we got mixed up in all this murder malarkey!
