Peter and I had a long talk with Ruth and Joey this morning. Ruth was still adamant that she can’t see how Dom marrying Mariam is going to work, but I think we managed to wear down her resistance a little bit. Predictably, she said that standard thing about “the family that prays together stays together”, which gave me a chance to tell her about the Prayer Bear that Ibrahim gave Lucy, which says, “friends who pray together stay together” – almost exactly the same mantra! I think Peter did better than me at the “oil on troubled waters” bit. I’m too argumentative for a diplomatic role. Anyway, we’ve organised for Mariam’s parents to come over tomorrow and meet Ruth and Joey. I’m sure they’ll be better at smoothing things over than I ever could be!
Now for more important things! Liverpool play Norwich tonight at Anfield (too late for us to get tickets for the match, unfortunately) in hte very first match of this year's Premier League.
