I missed Suicide Awarenes Month, which was September, but this popped into my Facebook timeline and I found it very helpful in understanding Stephen's suicide.

I'd always assumed that there must be some reason why he killed himself, and that there must have been some signs that I missed. This suggests that the reason is probably totally unreasonable, and boils down to mental illness that bears no relation to what was going on around him. It also tells me that there may well not have been any signs that I ought to have spotted and acted upon. It's still hard not to feel guilty that I didn't manage to stop him, but ... well it is reassuring in a funny sort of way.
