Jonah's sister, Sarah, rang this afternoon to say that their mother has been taken into hospital with a serious chest infection following on from flu. She'd been vaccinated, but they say the virus has mutated even more than usual this year and there are severals strains about that it doesn't guard against. According to Sarah, the doctor had been saying for a few days that he was worried about her, but she didn't want to be a burden on already over-stretched NHS resources so he put off referrring her for as long as he dared. Sarah sounded quite gloomy about her prospects and pleased when Jonah said that he'd go down to see her tomorow.
It'a a good thing that, since his injury, he's been keeping stictly (or fairly strictly!) to a five-day week and normal (or reasonably normal!) hours of work. That means that it's feasible for me to drvie him down to Kent tomorrow, stay overnight with Sarah and come back on Sunday.
So this evening will be taken up with packing the car ready for an early start tomorrow. So much for our plans to re-decorate the spare room this weekend!
