Jonah agreed to knock off early for once. He’s wrapped up a case involving a sequence of assaults on delivery drivers – a gang of youngsters were targeting online purchases of Christmas presents – which means that he now has no ongoing investigations and there was a distinct danger that he might have to knuckle down and do all the paperwork instead of handing it over to Andy Lepage to finish!
It was lucky we got away because it was only as we were leaving that Jonah remembered that it’s Anne’s birthday the day after tomorrow. (In case you’ve forgotten, Anne is married to Jonah’s older son, Reuben.) We took a quick diversion to the newsagent’s on the way home and picked up a card for her. Then I had to dash out to post it and just missed the last collection. With a first class stamp, it may get there in time, but of course Christmas isn’t far off so maybe not.
None of us could face staying up for the election results. Whatever happens is bound to be depressing.
