The government is boasting that they've opened more "Nightingale Courts" in an effort to address the backlog of court cases caused by the pandemic. Let's hope this is more than just rhetoric and they really will manage to hold the trial of Kenny's killers in January as planned.
Meanwhile COVID-19 cases numbers are continuing to rise (but never mind, we're no worse than other places, such as Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands). Today Matt Hancock officially announced that "thanks to our world-class genomic capability in the UK", we have identified a new variant of coronavirus which may be associated with the faster spread in the South East of England. More places are being moved into Tier 3 restrictions. Tier 3 is getting uncomfortably close to Oxford. Lucy, in Liverpool, was in Tier 3 for a long time before the November lockdown. At least that seems to have worked in bringing down the infection rates and she's now back in Tier 2. There's no knowing whether she'll get home for Christmas this year. I suspect not.
