Born on May 14. 1927, Bert Hamlen Woodage rode for George Todd's stable at Poplars, West Ilsley, Berkshire, and was first seen on a racecourse at Pontefract when riding in an apprentices' plate on July 24 1943.
He rode until 1960 when he took his last mount, Sash of Honour (trainer: Gordon Richards) at Bath on May 12.
Woodage rode at seven stone.
