The race above, run at Windsor on March 2, 1946, is the earliest mention of Brendan which I can find on my database. He was born in 1923 so would be about 23 years old when he climbed aboard Sandringham for the last race of the day. The pair finished second behind Roman Flight.
Brendan lived at Herridge, Collingbourne Dulcis, Wilts., and, having initially ridden for G. Wilson, was retained by A.S. Killpatrick. He had, at that time, a handy riding weight of nine stone.
Brendan nominated Pongo as the best horse he'd ridden (though that probably isn't saying much about Pongo).
I can find no evidence of Brendan actually winning a race, and - such was the struggle to find rides - he called it a day on April 12, 1947. His last ride was on Inverlochy for Killpatrick at Cheltenham.
Then, dreams unrealised, he walked away from racing.
