Major Alexander Ronald George Strutt, fourth Baron Belper, was born on 28 April, 1912 and was a soldier and equestrian. He was educated at Harrow and Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He gained the rank of Major in the Coldstream Guards and was wounded on active service during the Second World War.
He was the son of Algernon Strutt, third Baron of Belper & the Hon. Eva Isabel Marion Bruce.
His best day in the saddle came at Cheltenham on Lord Rosebery's Crown Prince when winning the National Hunt Chase on March 8, 1934 (see below)
He also often competed at Hawthorn Hill, winning the annual Household Brigade Meeting there on Tuesday, April 11, 1933 (see below).
As an owner, his best horse was Persian Lancer, who won the 1966 Cesarewitch under Doug Smith. (see below)
Ronald married Zara Mainwaring on 15 November, 1940. The had just one child from this marriage, Richard Henry, who went on to become fifth baron Belper.
The marriage lasted nine years. Once divorced, Zara went on to marry Peter Cazalet, the Royal trainer.
Ronald Strutt died on 23 December, 1999.
