George Boast was the rider of Mr Stirling's Orange Boy in the 1838 Epsom Derby.
George, born 1786 (?) in Pocklington, Yorkshire was one of 13 children and learned the art of riding by racing ponies around the New Inn in his native village.
He then found work at various racing stables at Malton, Middleham, before moving down south to Newmarket where he worked at the stables of the Prince of Wales.
By 1839 he was , as noted in the New York Herald, training three horses for Mr Stirling.
In 1851, he was a farrier based at Marlborough.
