1940-2010
Born in Co Monaghan on May 1, 1940, Tommy was, from 1956, apprenticed to Harry Blackshaw.His first winner was Rockomo at Catterick, July 25, 1957.
He started his career in an Irish jumping stable before joining Blackshaw.
Tommy was sidelined in 1966 for some time following a serious operation.
On his return, he found it hard to get going and left racing to work on building sites for several years.
His son, Rodney (born 21 October, 1966), was also a Flat jockey.
Tommy Lappin died January 1, 2010.
