George Argyle Clement (c1832-1917) was born in Pimlico and rode two winners of the Lincoln Handicap; Carurie in 1853 (its first ever running) & Bel Esperanza in 1859.
He rode 31 winners on the Flat plus one over hurdles.
He began to train in 1865 whist still riding.
He retired in 1902.
George died at Eastmanton Farm on November 7, 1917, aged 85. He left £4,575.
Three sons followed him into racing, all becoming trainers.
George also won the 1859 Queen's Vase.
