Tommy Foran, who lived at the Bay Horse Inn, Old Catterick, Yorks., served his apprenticeship with John Kerwin from February 1945 until May 1950.
Born on November 23, 1928, he rode his first winner, Astria, at Bellewstown in 1947.
In 1958, he rode Arnicus to win the Grand National trial at Catterick.
Tommy rated Uncle Isaac, on which he won at Ayr and Newcastle in 1960, as the best he'd ridden.
This was also the year in which he married Hazel Smith in May.
He died on June 24, 1992, aged 63.
