Peter Denis Haynes was born in Aylesbury on February 9, 1951 and was a junior showjumper before joining Derek Kent as a n amateur. He won the Hickstead Junior Championship in 1967.
He turned professional in 1972. His first winner was Eurotas at Fontwell on March 31, 1969.
He became a trainer, then a starter.
His son, Harry, was also a jumps jockey.
The best horse he rode was the New Zealand-bred Grand Canyon, on which he won six hurdle races between October 1975 and March, 1976, including Ascot's SGB Hire Shop Hurdle, Sandown's Tolworth Hurdle, Huntingdon's Sidney Banks Memorial Hurdle & Doncaster's Rossington Main Hurdle.
