Herbert George Applin was an amateur rider who lived at Ash, Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset, and rode at 10 st.
The highlight of his career was undoubtedly winning the 1941 National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham on Forward.
Despite that, Herbert always claimed that the best horse he rode was Timber Wolf, which he rode to victory at Worcester on November 30, 1941.
