Born at Cheltenham on May 25 1960, Nigel Frederick Coleman was apprenticed to David Nicholson and rode his first winner, Walmari, at Stratford on October 24, 1981.
He had ridden 114 winners when a fall from Final Sound at Worcester in May, 1992, cut short his career. This left him partially paralysed and he was awarded £200,000 compensation.
His biggest win came on Ikdam in the 1989 Triumph Hurdle.
