The son of a cattle dealer, George Elfred Cadwaladr was born at Chester on December 15, 1945 and served his apprenticeship with Eric Cousins.His first ride was on Krawin (last of four) at Birmingham in 1962.
His first winner was Barnie Seaton at Aintree on June 5, 1963.
His best season came in 1966 when his 31 winners included a Royal Ascot double with Roughlyn (King's Stand Stakes) and My Audrey (Wokingham).
On Saturday November 7, 1970, George switched codes and took his first mount over hurdles, Hunter's Treasure (1.30. Doncaster)
From 1976, he rode mainly abroad.
George lived at Two Mile House, Wrexham Road, Chester and enjoyed golf and reading.
