John Anthony White was born in Bannow, Co Wexford, on April 15, 1959 and rode his first winner, Monsieur Esclave, on July 27, 1978, at Limerick.
John was riding from the age of 12: he came to Britain in 1983 to ride for Nicky Henderson.
He finished second on The Tsarevich in the 1987 Grand National and was the unlucky jockey who 'won' the void National on Esha Ness.
He had a total of eleven rides in the race, completing on eight occasions.
Returning to Ireland, he began training at his father's yard in Wexford.
John won the 1993 Racing Post Chase on Zeta's Lad and the 1989 Mandarin Cup on Polyfemus.
