Andrew Ernest Bacon was born on 9 June 1965 and was apprenticed to Major Dick Hern for four years.
Retained by Mel Brittain, Andrew's highest number of winners in a season was just two, in 1988.
He had his first ride in public on Saturday May 5, 1984. (below)
His first winner, Carol's Music, came at Leicester on September 23, 1985 (below)
Andrew rode a great race on Dublin Lad to win on October 8, 1985, but it didn't come without its problems (below)
When Andrew, then aged 21, raced clear to win on Common Farm at Hamilton on April 2, 1987, it was only his third winner.
In August 1988, and still claiming 7 lb, Andrew left Mel Brittain to join Cockerham trainer Jack Berry.
Up to that time he had ridden 14 winners.
It was always going to be an uphill struggle and, at Redcar, on Friday, 25 September, 1992, Andrew raced for the last time - Ragazzo for Nigel Tinkler.
Away fom the saddle, Andrew was passionate about football.
