Kevin Richard Adshead was born on July 6, 1959. He rode initially both on the Flat and over jumps, scoring his first success on Steve Nesbitt’s selling hurdler Boreas at Catterick on February 20, 1980.
Five months later, on July 16, 1980, again at Catterick, he achieved his first win on the Flat on the Walter Bentley-trained Eagle Boy.
Having drawn a blank in the next National Hunt season, Kevin rode two winners over hurdles during the 1981/82 campaign, namely Graham Lockerbie’s Pretty Boy Floyd at Hexham on September 7, 1981 and Steve Norton’s Bentley Springs (right) at Southwell on April 8, 1982. Four days after that Southwell win, he had three rides on Fakenham’s Easter Monday card, finishing second on the 5/2 favourite Rosies Secret in the selling hurdle.
Living at Windy Ridge in Leyburn Road, Middleham, he was subsequently retained by Neville Crump. However, he did not ride many winners, his best annual score being three in 1983.
