Thomas Ernest Goswell, born 1892, began riding over jumps in 1910 and quickly began
making a name for himself.

In 1911 he rode 16 winners, and for
the next 3 seasons he was in the top
10 of jumps jockeys.
In 1914 he enlisted in the 14th Battalion Royal, Warwickshire registered as Private 32538 Goswell.
He fought at Ypres.
Aged 24, Tom Goswell was killed on Thursday, 26th October,
1916, at Passchendaele.
He is buried at the Hooge Crater cemetery, Belgium (right).
