Born in Leeds on April 7, 1954, Colin Harwin Tinkler rode his first winner, Montabel, at Teeside on October 10, 1970.
He was eventually to ride 395 winners in total.
Colin's career was abruptly ended when his mount, O'er the Border, suddenly ducked out when leading in a novice chase at Newcastle on November 13, 1982.
He was thrown against a tall, wooden upright, supported by a concrete post. His left femur was smashed in seven places and he lost the sight of his right eye.
