Jack Frost kindly arranged some ice for the days around January 1 1994. New Year's day was bright and sunny with not a breath of wind. Nairnshire curlers appeared and soon 3 rinks were up and running. Spectators watched from the banks, and some youngsters raced radio controlled toy cars on the ice. A mysterious elderly couple, dressed in the fashion of a hundred years before, appeared from out of the woods and caused much amusement when they revealed thenselves as a local farming couple in disguise!
Thanks to the efforts of Gregor Munro, a generator provided the lighting and curling was played well into the night.
Chief Technician, Bill Young fires up a modern generator which powered a lamp mounted high in a tree.
The way it was. The old dynamo from the late 1950's. This was salvaged from the Nairnshire Laundry and driven by a belt from a tractor.
The power was supplied to lamps mounted on a pole in the centre of the pond. An inspection condemned them as unusable.
