Seven Rinks Compete For Club's Park Cup
Nairn Curling Club members have been in action on and off all last week. Several competitions have been embarked upon and two —the Club Kettle and the Jubilee Shield—have been decided.
Winner of the Kettle, which was awarded in a points competition on Wednesday, was Dr J. McFadyen with 16 points, the runners-up (eq.) tyeing W. Nicol and A. B. Read with 15 points.
Seven rinks were forward for the Park Cup and in the first round the results were:
No. 2 (J. McFadyen, G. G. Calder, F. D. Stevenson and J. D. Boyes) beat No. 6 (A. Fraser, S. A. Morrison, W. L. Macpherson, and A. M. Duncan). No. 7 (R. M. Paton, A. Hay, W. Macgillivray, J. Henderson) beat No. 5 (P. M. Pottie, C. G. Young, R. M. Pottie and W. J. Macdonald). No. 4 (E. F. Brown, G. Innes, M. I. Mactaggart, R. J. Hunter) beat No. 3 (T. Walls, R. A. Fraser, K. M. Cameron and J. McLeod). Bye—No. 1 (Dr D. R. Macdonald, R. Taylor, R. Mirtle, E. J. Munro).
On Saturday night a new trophy, the Jubilee Shield, was competed for. It was presented by Mr David Brown, Nenthorn, to mark the Club's Jubilee year in 1958, during which period he was president.
Curiously enough, it was a rink skipped by his son, E. F. Brown, and including A. Innes, W. Macgillvray and R. Hunter that won the shield, after a tie with a rink skipped by A. B. Read and composed of D. Stevenson, J. Boyes and D. Ross. In the play-off Brown's rink won by 2 shots to 1.

ARDCLACH IN FINE FORM TO WIN COUNTY TITLE
Ardclach, who were joint holders of Nairnshire Curling Association's championship cup in 1957, captured it for themselves by a convincing margin when the annual bonspiel took place at Nairn Club pond on Saturday.
Twelve rinks took part and the ice was excellent. At the close Mr George Innes, the Association hon. secretary, announced that Ardclach had emerged winners with the remarkable average score per rink of 13.5 shots up. Nairn were runners-up with 1.5 shots up and Glenferness and Cawdor were third and fourth respectively.
Mr P. M. Pottie, Nairn Club president and Association vice-president, said it was a great pleasure to him to call on their new president, Lord Leven, to hand over the cup. He referred to his late father's services to Nairn and to his long connection with the Association; to the many fine games played at Glenferness and Ardclach in the past and to the fact that their new president's uncle had gifted the cup that was to be handed over then.
Lord Leven said it was a great pleasure to him to have been chosen as the Association president and so far as the ice was concerned that day they could not have had better—it was the best he had ever played upon. He thought the time might come, even yet this year, when they would get suitable ice to play upon at Glenferness and if they did he would let them know. He then congratulated Ardclach on their success and called on Mr D. A. Macarthur to accept the cup.
Mr Macarthur said that Ardclach did not always expect to win but things ran well for them. He felt it was hardly his place to accept the cup that day—his rink was only 6 up—but rather the place of Mr Bob Stewart, whose rink was something like 20 shots up. He thanked Lord Leven for his congratulations and added they had all a fine sporting game and that was what was really important. continued/

The Secretary intimated that Mr Pottie had again presented badges to the members of the rink winning by the largest number of shots up and this went to Ardclach No. 2 (R. Stewart).
The Ardclach rinks were:- No. 1 D. A. Macarthur, A. S. Innes, D. Stewart, D. L. Middleton, J. B.Philip and H. Macarthur.
Tribute was paid by Lord Leven to the ice-master for the excellent conditions.

CAWDOR HOLD CHAMPIONS
In a challenge match at the Achnatone pond on Tuesday night Cawdor were in great form in holding Ardclach, the Nairn County champions, to a draw after a thrilling game.
The ice was fast and in excellent condition and the occasion was an historic one, too, for it was said to be the first time a match between rival clubs had been played on this pond at night under artificial lighting—Tilley lamps placed at strategic points made the scene a picturesque one and worthy of celebration.
Ardclach No. 1 (D. Stewart, skip, D. L. Middleton, R. Cochrane, and E. James) beat Cawdor No. 1 (R. Hay, skip, J. Innes, W. J. Brown and I. Mackay) by 14 shots to 11.
Cawdor No. 2 (J. Craigie, skip, H. Robertson, G. Ross and A. Wood), beat Ardclach No. 2 (A. S. Innes, D. A. Macarthur, R. Stewart and John Mackintosh) by 18 shots to 15.
