THEY TESTED THE AMERICANS
The two rinks from Nairnshire which played the American tourists at Perth on Thursday put up a very good showing—Nairn drew 10 all in their game and Ardclach only lost by 4-5.
In this international contest the Moray, Banff and Nairn Province was composed of the two Nairn rinks and one from Moray, composed of two players from Elgin and two Rothes curlers. These teams were joined by rinks from Cupar and combined they put up an excellent fight, losing onlv by 58 shots to 41.
The Nairn rink was : G. A. Whyte, D. MacGregor, R. J. R: Gordon and Tom Walls (skip) and they actually led 6-0 at one stage against their American rivals who, after a very exciting game, managed to pull up and get a 10-all draw.
The Americans were greatly thrilled by the fact that the Nairn players wore the kilt - the only rink to do so. Perhaps the appearance of the " wild Highlanders" had something to do with the Americans' inability to score to start with.
The Ardclach team was: D. L. Middleton, A. S. Innes, D. A. Macarthur and Jas. Mitchell (skip), and they too, put up a grand fight to lose by 5-4. " Sandy" Innes, who also wore the kilt, soon established himself as a great favourite with the Americans and was in great demand as a " model" for the enthusiastic amateur photographers among the visitors.
The Nairnshire teams received badges from the Americans and they, in turn, presented them with Cameron brooches.
At the luncheon which followed, Mr Walls expressed the pleasure it had given all in playing the Americans and in entertaining them.
