31st December 1874
The 1875-76 Annual records that Dyke played Strathspey on Strathspey's pond (Grantown) in a District Medal match. Clubs played 2 rinks each, 4 men in each, and the match lasted 3 hours. Dyke won by 27shots to 24. The umpire was Wm Law, Dyke, and the ice was described as "keen but biased".
Hopefully this description did not also apply to the umpire!
The Nairnshire Telegraph recorded the match in its first issue of 1875
It would have been a good Hogmanay in Dyke!
