27th December 1927

The Nairnshire Telegraph contained a much less detailed report of the County Bonspiel than usual.

This is because Ardclach had challenged the calculation of the result, and this was minuted at a meeting of their Club on 21st December.

. The scoring system for the Leven Cup (constituted in 1908) tended to favour clubs with the fewest rinks entered.

A Special General Meeting of the Association was called to consider the protest. (see Mar 8th 1928)

Ardclach Minutes 21 Dec 1927

Bonspiel (County Association) was held today on our pond. 12 rinks (Nairn 5, Cawdor 1, Glenferness 2, Auldearn 2, Ardclach 2). Ardclach were 13 up. Notwithstanding the Ardclach Secy's challenge the Leven Cup was awarded to Nairn.

Nairn Club were 20 up as a whole, making a rink average of 4 up. Ardclach average was 61/2. The Ardclach Secy. challenged the Association Secy's award of Cup to Nairn, but cup was so awarded. The Ardclach Secy challenged the award and forwarded protest to the Curling Association Secy. This Secy. (Mr Mackintosh) made his award on the understanding thast it had been arranged at General Meeting that in consideration of Cawdor's only forwarding 1 rink to the Bonspiel the cup be awarded to to the Club with the highest aggregate win - which club was Nairn.
