CURLERS COURT AND DINNER
Under the auspices of Nairn Curling Club, a dinner was held in the Royal Hotel Nairn on Friday. Mr Tom Walls, president, presiding over an attendance of close on seventy curlers, including members of the Ardclach, Cawdor and Inverness Highland Clubs.
After an enjoyable meal provided by the management, the following toast list was gone through —" The Queen"—The Chairman; Jack Frost — Walter Williams; Royal Caledonian Curling Club—Hugh MacCallum, Reply — Alex Gemmell (Chaplain, Royal Caledonian Curling Club); “Neighbouring Clubs— Henry King, reply—Harry Keay; “Curlers’ Wives and Sweethearts" —Hugh Mann, reply — Kenny Cameron; " The: Chairman" — Arthur MacLean.
The toast list was interspersed by songs by Mr P. C. Knight, Colonel George Borwick and Mr Donald MacGregor, with Mr James McMorran as accompanist. The company also joined in community singing, led by Colonel Borwick.
During the evening the usual "Curlers' Court" was held, with Mr Tom Walls ably officiating as " My Lord" and Messrs Robert Taylor, Dr Ian Macfadyen and Rev. A. Gemmell as " My Lord's officers." Mr Hugh McCallum acted as "Piper" and Mr G. A. Whyte and his assistants looked after the "candidates," of whom six prospective curlers were presented to " My Lord" and, having " passed the various tests" for admission to the "mystic art;" were duly admitted.
Votes of thanks having been accorded, a happy and enjoyable function, was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne".
24th March 1954 - Ponds Committee
It was found that the surfaces of rinks 3 and 4 were disintegrating. Mr Paton and Mr Williams were to prepare a report. It was thought repairs would cost about £30
23rd September 1954 - Management Committee
The question of lady members was considered. Mr JC Michie & Dr J MacFadyen moved that they be not admitted and this recommendation to the AGM was carried without dissent. Unclaimed stones in the club-house to be sold if not claimed within 6 months.
Mr J Bookless had advised that the Highland Bonspiel would take place at the Central Ice Rink, Perth, on 3rd November 1954, and that the Dalzeil Trophy recently donated by Peter Pottie of Nairn CC would be competed for.
23rd September 1954 - Annual General Meeting (47th)
It was agreed to uphold the committee's recommendation that ladies be not admitted to the Club. The secretary/treasurer reported that there had been little curling over the past season. Club membership stood at 86 and the finances showed a balance of £113-13/2 with Mr Wilson's account still outstanding. The Rev. Alec Gemmel was appointed Club Chaplain.
20th October 1954 - Management Committee
Mr Eric Brown was proposed and accepted for membership. Arrangements to be put in hand for a Dinner & Court to be held on 11th February1955, and a Dance on 25th February 1955.

CURLING
Nairn In Third Place
Nairn, with two rinks forward, were placed third in the competition for the Dalziel Trophy when 18 rinks of curlers from the Northern Counties took part in the 4th Highland bonspiel at Perth ice rink on Wednesday.
The placings of the best teams were : Lochaber, average score of 15 shots up; Strathspey—8 up; Nairn 7.5 up; Fairburn—4 up; Highland—3 up; Ardclach— l up.
Other clubs following these were: Muir of Ord, Newtonmore, Avoch, Caberfeidh, Elgin and Allangrange.
The Nairn rinks were; No. 1— D. Brown, F. J. Knowles, W. Williams, T. Walls; No, 2—J. McFadyen, A. Fraser, G. G. Calder, D. R. Macdonald. Ardclach rink— R. and D. Stewart, D. L. Middleton, and E. James.
