Someone very wise once said, on the topic of children, that if you
wait to have them until you are ready, you never will. This same wisdom can
be applied to many things in life: relationships, purchasing a home, opening
your own business, beginning a new career, and more. Whether it's a case of
financial, emotional, physical, or some other sort of readiness, one thing
or another will always keep us from being completely prepared for the
responsibilities we face in life.
It is a rather ironic paradox that we, as mortals, often expect more from
ourselves than is expected from us by the Gods. We punish and demean
ourselves for failing to live up to the standards that, for many, are
self-imposed. We flounder, believing we have failed our chosen God or
Goddess. I have done this far too frequently to recount.
At first, no one ever appears worthy of what Love can make of us.
Throughout life, I have been constantly surprised by the faith and trust
that others place in me, whether it is professionally, personally, or
spiritually. Always have I fought against the idea that I could be worthy
of such, even when it was Taliena Herself who came to me, and placed Her
trust in me. It is not that She was oblivious to my weaknesses. She knows,
however, that it takes time to rise up to such challenges, that it takes
experience to accomplish what is set forth in life.
Yet here we come across what may be one of the most intrinsic differences
between faiths, whether one separates them according to ethos or deity:
forgiveness. Often this is attributed to the Light, though I will not
presume to say it is exclusive to them, or even fully practiced. I have
lived long enough to know that a golden aura does not necessarily mean a
nice person.
For my own part, I am comfortable with the knowledge that I am capable of
making mistakes. I accept that as being inevitable, due to my mortal
nature. Yet I feel safe in saying that regardless of any mistakes I may
make, I will find forgiveness from Taliena, even if I cannot grant it to
myself. I am confident, then, in my ability to serve, even if I do not feel
I am ready to do so.
Despite my shortcomings, Taliena honoured me and placed Her faith in me.
Why? Because of Her Love. In my faith to Her, then, I try to extend this
understanding and forgiveness to all around me as well. My understanding of
Her domain, and my past history with Zandreya's nation, has led me to the
knowledge that all mortals are a part of the greater whole. I therefore
strive to not only treat others as equals, but actually see them as such,
despite our differences in life.
Each of us has our own path to walk. Taliena prefers paths that respect
the happiness of all beings, but we each follow our own heart as we must,
and no path is less valid than another. But without that respect, without
recognizing that divine spark which we all carry, our world will eventually
destroy itself as parts of the Whole struggle for perceived dominance.

Members of the Light, those seeking the Light and those thinking about
their current path.
I write to you to speak of goodness. However, I will take a breif moment to
speak of myself to give you an idea who I am.
My name is Taevan Snowdragon, once Mammoritai, once MacLeod. I was born
part Highlander, part Dragon, as was the great Elder Silver Kaikias and my
mother was the Lady Gwendalen MacLeod. I am a Knight of Gareth who
specializes in artifact restoration and book-keeping.
I am not a priest, in fact, I am zealot of Kantilles. I raise his banner
high within war and call his name before moving in to strike with my lance.
That being said, I believe in the bigger picture. That while we each cling
to tenets, doctrine and strict regimens, the bigger picture seems to be
lost. All those with a Golden Aura are part of a whole. Without one, we
are nothing. This has been recognized when Kadiya fell and Taliena took
over her daughters mantle. This illustrates the importance of each. I
crusade for wisdom and for all magic that is good.
It is important to understand the various ways of each of the pantheon, to
know and understand their strengths, to understand when it is time to
excersize the various aspects that the light has to offer. One may be pious
to say that you must excersize them all, but compassion is not needed when
you are reading a book, but it is when you are defending a pilgrim on his
way to a holy site who is being marauded by bandits.
I spend a lot of my time among the lairs of the metallics, choosing to remain
as a member of the Keep because I believe in the cause of crusading for all
that is good in the world. I choose a specific style of fighting when I
chose to go out with others.
First and foremost, it is my preference not to fight anyone who bears a
golden aura. Sometimes, I am forced into that position, and that is
unfortunate. I will defend a member of the Keep from another who bares a
golden aura.
I will now cover my beliefs in relations to each of the Pantheon.
I believe in Austinians visions of the land of Algoron covered with
sparkling golden auras everywhere, where beacons of light are not needed for
his presence floods the realms and leaves not a shadow anywhere. Perfect
unity in the light, perfect unity of thought, of mind, of body, of beliefs.
I believe in Taliena's love, compassion and joy. I believe it is the way to
keep ones mind and body pure. One must always remember that in these times,
thoughts of revenge and anger can invade the mind and cloud ones judgment.
Those thoughts blur the lines between what is good and what is evil.
Veangeance and rage are thoughts of the enemy, the ones they wish to instill
in their enemies in order to destabilize them. Kadiya will never die,
though her mantle is taken by the Lady Taliena, her vision was peace, where
the weapons we now wear are used to till soil, grow food for our families,
friends and the greater community.
I believe in Kantilles wisdom and the good magics he bestows upon this
realm, I believe that understanding his ways, though confusing sometimes, is
imperative to understanding and appreciating the subtleties that magic can
bring to the world. The sheer beauty of the perfectly formed magic mushroom.
A winters day within the absolute sheer heat of the new Thalosian desert.
Snow in the desert! The beauty of the two opposites right beside eachother
is staggering.
I believe in Nadrik's honor. I chose to fight within honor, even when my
enemy does not. I will not stoop to the level that they choose to. It is
not my way to wait at a bindstone and ambush them. It is not my way to not
them mercy if they ask it. One must understand, that does not mean that I
will never kill. I will understand and apply wisdom when granting the grace
of mercy. Mercy when one was caught pillaging peasants is a quick dispatch
instead of letting the person rot away in pain and suffering. The ultimate
judgment of the sinner is of course, the Gods of Light, and it is my duty
to bring them hither unto them.
I believe in the healing grace of Siccara, that her healing rains down on
us from above giving us the blessed powers that we love so much curing a
child who has tripped and fallen and cut themselves restoring their smiles.
I believe in the healing magics that drives plagues from the lands, from our
bodies, allowing the continuous mirracles that they use us to perform to
continue.
These are my beliefs, these are what I hold dear. As I said, I am born of
the belief in Kantilles, and when it came to if I should continue under his
banner when I came of age, I chose to take it up and ride with it. As I
ride with it, I understand that it is my place as a Knight of Gareth to also
display the colors of the other gods and that the whole of the light is
looking at me to exemplify what it means to truly be a member of the Light.
When you ask me who I truly am, I respond thusly. My name is Sir Taevan
Snowdragon, Knight of Kantilles, given my spurs within Gareth by General
Acthus, beloved son of Kaikias the Silver and Gwendalen MacLeod, younger
brother to Sir Branzol Snowdragon, twin brother of Roisheen Snowdragon,
older brother to Eiry and Kamdyn Snowdragon, future brother in law to
Corszana Snowdragon. I am Taevan of the United Light, friend of the Great
Inazuma and Mercerion Mamoritai and I refuse to wear additional badges of
doctrine as I do not believe in any of them.
It is my hope that you take from this something new and something you may
not have thought of.
Sincerely,
Sir Taevan Snowdragon,
Knight of the Shield of Gareth

There is a sentiment, often expressed in both poetry and prose, that
one would find it easy to die for the sake of love, to die so that a loved
one could continue to live. While I agree with this whole-heartedly, I
believe there is something more important to point out and remember: Dying
for someone is the easy part.
Living for someone, making and keeping them happy, supporting them
financially, emotionally, or physically, is the much more difficult, and
often more important task.
I would die for my wife, my children, and a number of friends, if a
situation arose where it was necessary. But unless and until that time
comes, I choose to live for them - for their happiness, their smiles - and
devote my life to keeping us well and able to enjoy the time we have
together in this life.
Diving in front of a crossbow bolt, dying in a duel or battle so that
your loved ones can escape and live are very heroic ideals that capture the
mind and imagination of romantics. And they are, indeed, great and noble
sacrifices for love. But while the imagination is captured by such lofty,
epic grandiosity, the stronger undercurrents of love tend to go unnoticed
until they have pulled the dreamer under.
It takes courage to live for someone, at least as much as it does to die
for them. Courage, dedication, and work (often hard) are all required for
love to continue and flourish. Falling in love is easy, but then you need
to build the foundation of the relationship in that hole you just walked
into.
And talking can be scary. Those of you who know me should realize that,
as a performer, I tend to be fairly good at public speaking, or at least
speaking in public. But talking to the one you love can be frightening,
because you might worry that something you say will hurt them, or cause them
to love you less, or be upset with you. There are those who will go to war
and fight, facing death, yet cannot summon the courage to talk to the one
they love. But it is the single most important tool in building a lasting
relationship. And, if they love you deeply enough to live for you as well,
then nothing you're likely to say will break the relationship.
You will hurt each other, sometimes. Physically or emotionally, it will
happen, though hopefully never intentionally. Don't close up, don't stop
talking when this happens. The best thing you can do is reach out to each
other, with words and arms. Reassure the one you love that you do still
love them, just as strongly as ever. You'll both be miserable until you do.
Everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect. And yet, in love, faults
are noticed only briefly before they become part of your partner's
uniqueness. You accept what they are, who they are, as well as what they're
not, and you love them all the more. The "imperfections" only serve to make
them perfect. That is among the least of love's paradoxes.

Many see Kantilles solely as the God of Good Magic, which is undoubtedly
true. What should be recognized of this patron diety of the Arcane is that,
to the Light, he also serves as a symbol of wisdom, patience, and
discipline. For what is magic, but an art which requires an ample amount of
the three to master? Just as valuable to us as the messages of love and
honor which Taliena and Nadrik bring, these virtues, when practiced, serve
to better us as both individuals and a community. It is in this way that
Kantilles' influence extends beyond those who practice the Arcane, though it
is for they that the practice of wisdom and patience is of paramount
importance.
It is important to note that wisdom is not something that can be practiced,
but rather, is something that is gained by practicing the right things. It
is a passive boon which allows us to make the right decisions by viewing
things from the perspective of a learned and experienced individual; one
whom has learned a lesson and now applies it for the betterment of the
present and future.
I implore you to practice patience in your daily lives. Foolishness is not
so much the antithesis of wisdom as it is a compliment of haste, an alias of
impatience. In hurrying, we leave ourselves vulnerable to err substantially
more than we would have, had we not been heedless. There is a correct pace
to move at for all things and, indeed, it is commendable to strive for
improvement so that one may do things more efficiently, but to be overly
hasty in thought, word, and action only does you a disservice.
If you become angry, pray for the patience to let it pass. It is a fleeting
emotion that will harmlessly pass, unless it is acted upon. If you become
impatient, pray for the discipline to remain on course. Take a deep breath
and resume, hard work pays off exponentially and all good things come in
time.
Goodness guide you,
Deacon Ramias Thurazindall

The question has been asked several times: what is freedom? In this missive
I will attempt to address that question, as well as point out a few relevant
examples of what freedom is NOT, at least as they pertain to the so-called
liberator, Malachive.
Why do I wish to address this issue? Because far too many seem to be making
uninformed decisions based around a desire to be "free", when freedom is
something that one must find within themselves. The gods do not bar or restrict
our freedom and Malachive does not offer it. If you are shackled or chained,
then destroying the religions of Algoron will not liberate you.
First, let me discuss a few things which freedom is NOT.
Freedom is not given when you walk into the home of a peaceful tribe and offer
them no choice but fighting. Certainly, we opposed Malachive. But we did not
fight him, we did not threaten him. He did not come to our lands offering peace
and freedom, he came offering war. There was no choice, and choice is inherent
to freedom. He restricted our choices and options to what he found desirable.
He might have felt freedom, but neither myself nor my tribe felt freedom.
I was not released from slavery or shackles. I had my life ripped away from me.
I watched my parents fall, my Elders slaughtered and poor, innocent children
taken in the blossom of their youth because of the acts of another who now says
that he offers freedom. He does not offer freedom, he offers a vendetta.
Malachive is jealous, envious, of the gods. His is an agenda against them. Let
us be clear and make no mistake of it. If you follow Malachive it is because
you hate the gods, because you hate those who have, for countless generations,
beyond our own reckoning, guided the forces that keep Algoron in motion.
Regardless of whether or not our deities are the creators of their domains,
there should be little question that they make them, and their followers
stronger.
Freedom is NOT found in the stripping of choice. Malachive's intention to strip
the tribes of Tropica of the choice to exist as they wished was not where it
stopped, nor where it began. In wishing to kill the gods he has professed a
profound desire to limit the choices of all people's of Algoron. You will
either worship him, be dead, or a slave to the will of those who do follow him.
This is not choice, which is an intricate part of freedom. That Malachive seeks
to limit our choices to something he desires shows, once more, that he is
working activiely AGAINST freedom, not for it.
Now, I realize that thus far, this missive has contained only harsh words. I
do not intend to be harsh, but freedom is an important value to me and I would
not want anyone to mistake or misuse freedom for their own gains. That any would
think to capture the spirit of freedom and use it to their own ends is a
thought which horrifies me.
But I do not feel anger at this, nor hatred. I am sad, and pity those who
continue to convey that which is not freedom. I pity those who continue to act
as if the limiting of my choices is freedom, those who do not seem to understand
that I am already free. I have been free for as long as I can remember.
Choice is inherent to freedom, and from the moment I began to think for myself,
I became free. It was I who chose to follow Taliena, and I who chose to do things
for my village. When my village was destroyed I chose to flee to Arkane, and
then to the Wrath of Justice and take upon me the robes of the goddess whom I
adore. In all of those things, I chose.
No one demanded any of those things of me, and no one will ever have the right
to demand those things. If I submit to Taliena's desires, it is because I choose
to submit to them, because I know that she has a power and a wisdom greater
than mine. The important thing is that it is my choice.
I do not pretend that the Light does not have its own agendas. That is why
I do not profess that the Light offers freedom. As I said earlier, freedom
is something that you must find within yourself. There is freedom within the
Light, but it is not the Light's agenda to give freedom.
The differences between Malachive's way and the Light are many, and I will
not delineate all of them here. But I wish to highlight, in the context of
this discussion, a very important difference. The only freedom offered in the
Light is that all who come to the Light should come to it by their own choices.
We do not preach blind faith, for blind faith is weak faith, and weak faith is
not encouraged. While we do not shun those with weaker faiths, rather, we seek
to help them, it must be understood that the Light does not wish for its
followers to be weak in their understanding and ignorant of their decisions
and choices.
I can safely say that all of those that I know intimately within the Light
are people who have chosen their paths, people that are free and free because
they have taken up the path that calls to them.
Perhaps you find such in your walking with Malachive, if so, more's the pity,
for you set yourself against me any many others of the Light. Malachive has
shown that he opposes all of Algoron in the most violent of manners. He has
destroyed entire races and speicies, not in the due nature of an actual war,
but in the cowardice of an ambush invasion.
But whether or not you have found freedom in walking with Malachive is
irrelevant to your path. The freedom you have found is still your own to find.
Malachive does not offer it any more than the gods of the Light, Darkness, or
Balance due. Such is not their duty, as they are beings themselves, with their
own agendas.
I, of course, would dissuade you from following Malachive. But at least, for
this missive, I refrain from setting out the full list of reasons why one should
not follow him. There are many reasons to not follow him, but the key one for
this missive is that you should not follow one who cannot give what he offers.
If you follow Malachive, then follow him for reasons other than freedom. Follow
him for his implied and obvious purposes in this world. Perhaps you like to make
destruction and chaos. Perhaps you like the slaughtering of the innocent and
wish the death of the gods? Those are reasons one might follow Malachive.
Freedom is not. And while you are free to follow Malachive, freedom is something
that he will never be able to offer to you.
Freedom is something that Malachive has explicitly denied to many, and will
continue to attempt to deny to all of Algoron. Therefore, Malachive is an
enemy of freedom, an enemy to all free peoples of Algoron.
Freedom is your responsibility to find for yourself, and neither Malachive, nor
anyone else, can claim to offer it to you and remain genuine in it.
I follow Taliena, and I serve the Light.
My name is Arrreana Lightwing, and I am free.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More than a dozen times, I have been visited by Taliena. In my years
of service to Her, I have performed a number of tasks at Her request. She
entrusted to me the creation of a holy text. She asked me to act in my role
as a historian, to keep records for Her Church. Always, She was concerned
for my well-being, and even worried that She was placing too much upon me.
Yet no task, taken willingly, can ever be too great a burden.
Only once did She ever deliver to me what could be construed as a demand.
What was that one, terribly burdensome ultimatum? Did She charge me to
worship Her alone? Did She exact terrible oaths from me, damning my soul to
eternal torment? What horrible task did She enforce upon me, chaining me
forever as a slave to Her whim?
She told me to follow my heart.
My heart. Not Her, or Hers. I was told to make my own choices in life,
the choices that would bring me the most happiness. I was forced to choose
my own path in life, at the direction of my own feelings and desires,
regardless of whether that path might align with a continued worship of
Taliena. That was her solitary "demand" upon me.
Shalonesti placed more restrictions upon my freedom than Taliena ever
has. Any kingdom or organization which requires adherence to a code or set
of laws is limiting freedom. Ultimately, I broke away from Shalonesti. For
a time I wandered without a kingdom, but I did not denounce all of them in
favor of the freedom of being homeless. Now I serve in New Thalos, by my
own choice.
Do not confuse service with servitude. We are each individually
responsible for our personal freedom. It is our own choice to serve with
dedication and fervor, or to sit by and do nothing. It is our own choice to
further the interests of our nations or Gods, or to serve only ourselves.
We were created as free-willed individuals, and so were imbued with the
ability, right, and even the responsibility of making our own choices.
My name is Elrei Avendale, and I am free.
Given at the Temple of Nadrik in the Church of Light by Lady Corszana Snowdragon
"Remain loyal to Lord Nadrik no matter what occurs in your life. He may test you, but will
not give more than He expects any one of His followers to be able to handle. Know always
that Lord Nadrik will stand by you if you remain in good faith to Him." The first tenet of our
Lord Nadrik, and an important one to remember in times like these. Hope seems to be
slipping fast as we lose shards, and as Malachive gains more followers daily.
What hope do we have left in the Light?
We must hold steadfast to the teachings of our Lord. He may be in peril now, but this test is
not too great for us if we have trust in him. If we do our part, then Lord Nadrik and the rest
of his family will come through for us.
Malachive's followers tell us that our gods do nothing for us. That we serve empty oaths to
pompous beings who lord over us and do us nothing in return. But our Lord Nadrik was
captured doing his best to defend us from a future threat. Kadiya died at the hands of
Devion, but it only occurred because she was here on Algoron, actively pursuing the
whereabouts of Malachive. Malachive who has shown himself to be far more than just a
threat to the gods, but also to the peoples of Algoron.
When Turpa died, the weather of our world was, for a time, stilled. Even if she is not the sole
cause of weather, it is clear that she had much control over it. In that same way, our deities
gift us with their domains. The gods of the Light gift us with good things in the world, they
promote that which creates, that which builds up, that which makes us stronger. Death and
decay are natural things. Without their gods, they would still occur, just as the weather is still
here even though Turpa is gone. Serving them only embraces their power, and allows it to
take hold where it needs not. Death in murder and decay in the consequence of such.
Just as that is true, honor and love and all good things will exist without our deities, but by
embracing them we empower those ideas and we spread them. Nadrik can do far more to aid
us than we can alone. Taliena, Austinian, Kantilles, and Siccara too. Thus we choose to
embrace them, to strengthen the ideals we want to see in this world.
But we must not lose hope now. We must remain loyal and stay true to our purpose.
Malachive is not the answer.
Malachive is a spawn of the darkness, even if they have turned on him. The darkness often
turns on itself, it is nothing new. The fact of the matter is that his purpose is destructive, that
makes it dark. His purpose would kill and murder and steal, it would not make Algoron better, no
matter HOW he might paint the picture.
Nor should we lose faith in the Light and accept the Darkness. Often the Light is pushed to do
things which are not inherent to our nature, such as killing, because the darkness exists. This
does not mean the darkness is stronger, it is simply what is. The darkness is not better because
of it. The Light will always keep me loyal because its purpose is true.
The Light cares not if you are weak or strong, dumb or smart. The Light does not promote such
things as murder. Even if we must kill in defense, and kill preemptively to prevent death, it is not
what we promote. The Light promotes Honor and Justice, Love and Peace, Goodness and Grace.
I do not want a world that embraces Murder and Lies, Vengeance and Decay. I do not want a
world of hatred. I do not want a world that culls those that it sees as unworthy and trods on
those that it thinks itself better than.
I want a world where I know that my children will be made strong, and not tested and
discriminated against because they do not fit up to the measure of what someone else determines
as "enough". I want a world where people do not have to worry about being exploited or being
used, where arguments end in hugs and the days are ended in laughter and cheer, not someone
else's misery. I will fight for such a world or die in the attempt. I will remain loyal, for it is worth
fighting for. Because in being loyal I give myself hope for that better future.
I am finished. May Nadrik be honored by my words, and may they give strength to the Light.
Note: As if to prove the Priestess' point about his destructive nature, Malachive destroyed a Church of Taliena on Tropica during this service. The news scroll is kept here in the Godswar section of the Library. - Lorekeeper Amberillo

Dear Knights,
Upon reading Lord Lanival's long winded complaints against our High
Clerist's complaints about Shadow Knights, I noted a heartening difference
(well, a number of them really) between our Orders.
The Prophesy they so fervently serve is only truly known to the leadership
of their knighthood. Therefore, if it were to happen one day that the
entirety of their inner circle was on a boat that sank to the bottom of the
sea, their evil order of knights would be in ruins. The fact they do not
trust their rank and file with the details of the core beliefs of their
Order speaks of the paranoia and self hatred they have of one another. With
no guidance, purpose or leadership, they would completely come apart.
Compare this to our own Knighthood, where our lessons and history are kept
in the open on shelves all may reach. Freely given and handed down from one
knight to another. It is even said in our ancient scrolls: "As long as a
single member of the Keep, true to the Ideals and Tenets of the Shield doth
stand, still, even so shall those under Gareth's charge live on, and Hope
shall grow anew." Should all the officers of the Knighthood meet our ends
in a tragic Underworld boating accident, we have complete faith that the
knights we leave behind would recover and continue with the Knighthood's
mission of Good and the battle against Evil.
Consider this a lesson of a difference between Good and Evil. How it is
that Goodness will overcome and renew in the face of hardship, and why Evil
stumbles and falters. This is why the Knighthood has remained as it has
since the days of Serpantol. The Knights of Eclipse faltered and fell; one
day, so will the Knights of Shadow.
Siccara bless,
Lady Datai d'Aggravaine, Lorekeeper of Knighthood
PS: Please don't put all the officers on one watercraft. While you all may
be just fine without us, I'd miss you all!

Lady Spirit, Elline and I are here, just to give praise and thanks to
you. My life hasn't been tea and cookies... Neither has Elline's. We all
have our trials, and missions in life... It is with our will, and divine
blessings that we can see our day to it's full extent, and to it's full
potential. My path of life, and the paths of everyone else's life is beset
and laid siege by the injustice and sins of the world about us..
Blessed is She, who in her nature and kind spirit, guides us with daily
peace, and in mercy to all around. You, Lady Spirit, are the keeper of the
conflicted, and the finder of misguided souls. It is with our mortal will,
that we will strike down any who see fit to lay waste to the peace you
bring, rather then us let evil subdue the world to it's tyranny. FOr it is
impossible for a mortal to see divine peace, but that is what we must hold
dear. It is something that we all will face in our life, and it is
something I will die knowing that I saw it safeguarded. And our enemies
will know that You, Lady Spirit, is what gave us the strength to lay our
wrath and vengeance upon all enemies.

To: Knighthood immortal Siccara Nadrik Nazca
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Knights,
The other day a crusader of Siccara stopped in to hang out in the Altar room
with us. Only it really wasn't a crusader of Siccara, but more like an
avatar. Anyhow, he mentioned that Siccara was glad of the prayers, and that
they imbue Her and Nadrik.
This is notable, not just for Siccarans or Knights of the Shield. Our
prayers for Nadrik are still heard in spite of the dire situation He is in.
Even tied up and captured on the Black Moon, our prayers grant Him comfort,
hope, and strength. Don't cease in your prayers for Him for fear He can't
hear you, or that it feels like a lack of action. Prayer is real and true
aid that we can offer Nadrik now till the day comes when He can plant a
spurred sabaton in Devion's face, and get back home where He belongs.
Siccara bless,

for the Light You guide us with
for the shining example you set
for every blessing on our person
for every gift granted in Your name
For all these I are thankful
For all these we are more
May this prayer rise to Thine ears
May this prayer assuage Thine sorrow
May this prayer restore Thine spirit
For Thee, in Thy name, we act
Now, and forever.

Gwaine: The power of prayer.

To: Knighthood ( Imm Immortal Immortals Nadrik )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gareth's
Recently, Lady Datai shared with us the words of the Crusader avatar of
Siccara.
He taught that the prayers we offer imbue our Gods, and make them
stronger.
For many months, I have been lax in my prayers. In my mind, I reasoned that
to call for Lord Nadrik's help in his circumstances, was to strain Him. I
did not stop to think what I denied my Lord by keeping my prayers to myself.
I see now, that the path I chose was in error.
So as I remind myself, I remind you also.
Offer your prayers, that from this Keep shall flow a river of hope and
blessing, from our thoughts and lips to the ears of our Gods.
Let Them hear and know, that for every blessing this Keep receives, we are
truly thankful.
d'Aggravaine, Crown.
On the Day of Freedom, 18th the Month of the Battle, January 6th 2011, Deacon Corszana Snowdragon-Anorati, priestess of Nadrik and Lord Gwaine d'Aggravaine, Champion of Nadrik lead a service in Nadrik's Temple in the Church of Light in Althainia.
Deacon Corszana started the service with a statement and prayer:
The Lord Crown General and I will not be keeping you too long, and yet I hope our words will cause you to think, to consider, perhaps to leave here inspired and joyful.
Lord Nadrik. Today we gather here to share applications of your word. To celebrate how your word inspires us, and to teach and to learn. Today we come to better know you. May your strength guide us, may our words bear the significance of your honor. We fight for you, to protect the innocent and the weak. Forever and always. Amen.
And then she began her sermon:
I bring to you a question to begin, why has Nadrik given us tenets?
Nadrik has given us tenets because we have the ability to choose. We are given free will, and with that free will we can make decisions. In many circumstances we are given a choice in which there is a right and a wrong decision. This is not always the case. For instance, while one might feel a certain color on their walls is right or wrong, the matter is entirely subjective. Likewise, the things one chooses to have for dinner are not necessarily right or wrong. Many choices do not have a clear right or wrong choice, though such decisions are beautiful in their own way.
But for many decisions, there is a clear right or wrong choice. Those of the Darkness might argue this, they might try to say that if it does not affect you, then it is inconsequential. And whether or not we accept that is truth is, perhaps, what separates the mindset of goodness and evil. Being good means that, in our free will, we still recognize that our decisions can have positive or negative impacts on those around us, and we recognize that we want to make positive impacts as much as possible.
We want to do "right".
When "right" is done, the world is made better. The weak are strengthened, the strong are renewed. And all of it is all the more meaningful because we CHOSE to do it. The "right" decision isn't always easy. Sometimes it is, but often it isn't. When it's not easy the "right" decision is all the more commendable. However, the "right" decision is for the better.
It would be easier not to take care of ourselves. To not cook our food, to not work, to not do things that we need to do in order to survive. But if we chose not do them we would begin to suffer, things would get worse, even though it was easier not to do them. In that same way, it's easy not to lift up the weak, poor man on the street. It's easy to neglect him, instead of making him strong. But when a big, ugly, mean dragon comes to attack, that's one defender less that we could have had. When the darkness comes, trying to swallow up our world in avarice and hatred, that's one less beacon of the Light to protect against the onslaught.
But that's enough sadness for one day. Free will is not supposed to make us sad, it's supposed to make things better, and so it does. Nadrik has given us tenets to help us make sure we are making the right choices.'
The Crown General here will talk about the joys of Free Will.
Here Lord Gwaine d'Aggravaine began his part of the service.
When Lady Corszana brought this idea for this service .. I was part aghast and part thrilled. The notion of speaking on behalf of a faith fervently held ..That speaks for itself, I think. And then of course, there is having to stand here and actually do it.
Fortunately, my thoughts are simple.
Our greatest gift of the Light is that of free will. The choice is ours, to remain in ignorance, or to explore those depths of faith and decision. In this exploration for knowledge, I do not mean a rash dabbling in this or that, or frivolous flirts with tenets of Evil in some misguided attempt to 'understand' evil and evil doers. Rather I urge an immersion in the ways of Good, to understand the nuances of Goodness, and where your place is in serving it.
For all knowledge is grown from a foundation, and as with a tree that bears good fruit to lend shade and sustenance those about them, the roots of one's faith must be sound to bear spiritual fruit sustain others. Else it is like feeding your brethren and those you hope to aide unripened fruit.
First, it is the acknowledgment of the Gods of our own capacity for enlightenment.
Second, it is Their understanding that we each walk our own journey, with choices that shall made, some righteous, other flawed.
Third, this gift comes with personal responsibility - that though we may rely on the fellowship of the Light to support and aide us, in our choices, these we are responsible for alone.
These points made, what I wanted to speak of was the joy that comes from exercising this free will in righteousness. In our hearts, if we pause to listen to what it says to us, to listen to the echo of our conscience .. the truth is inescapable. The Light deserves those whom take their service joyously. Exercising their free will, and knowing in its execution, the joy of a tenets blessing met.
This is what is rarely spoken of, that personal satisfaction of knowing the right choice made. Each of us has been there, each of us has chosen, and each of us has known this feeling. These are not always huge decisions on which empires and orders turn, but every day choices. But that is the way of the Light, our principles must infuse our every choice from waking moment to night's rest. The right choice, the correct path taken.
This does not mean the path is easy. And though we may stumble and fall, bruise a knee, and bloody an elbow along the way, the right path is suffused with the joy of service.
To conclude, I say this:
Our Gods speak through us, their spirit echoes in us, their voice heard when choice is poised before us. Yet, we owe our Gods beyond this instinctive conscience - to study their tenets, to understand better the nuances of what it means to serve our Gods. Much knowledge is about us, embodied in the Church and others in the fellowship of the Light. It is to us to reach for this knowledge, and carry this with us as we make our choices.
All whom are here, by your presence - you all make this first step.
I thank you for it.
The Lord Knight offered the closing prayer. Here he said:
Lady Corszana asked that I consider the closing prayer. And I thought long and hard on all the things to be thankful for. And truly the list is immense. But I think this day, I pray considering two things:
Those who are not present here today ..
And hope.
Our goal is to emulate the Gods we serve, to live as best we can to in our mortal being to their immortal example. So I give thanks, for the fellowship here today, and pray for hope sustained for those who are not, that they whom seek Goodness, shall find it.
In the time of fellowship after the service, Lady Corszana's sword took an unearthly light. It sprung to her hand and the glow surrounded her brightly. A token of Nadrik's gratitude for her work as a priest, and pleasure in the service given this eve she was granted the rank of a full Priest of His Church. I, Lady Datai d'Aggravaine, Lorekeeper of Knighthood, did with pleasure witness this occasion, and have copied to the best of my memory the words spoken by the leaders of Nadrik's faith this eve.

During a time when each Tower was its very own entity, it was a simple
enough task to abide by our Pantheon's commandment to unite with our fellow
followers of Good while remaining in check with Conclave law and custom. So
long as we did not take sides against our Black Robed brethren, or do
anything to see them in harms way, all was right. The business and agendas
of each were their own to follow as they pleased.
The "consolidation" of the Towers brought with it many issues still seen
today, but they are too numerous and complicated to individually address
within this message. I chiefly wish to discuss the primary concerns of my
White Robed successors, regarding their duties to the Conclave as members of
the Light. Many find it difficult to find a balance between the two, and so
I offer advice gleaned from years of personal experience and the teachings
of our Lord Kantilles.
When deciding upon how to act, one must take into consideration the nature
of the dilemma. Remember that the Order exists first to protect the rest of
the world from the dangers of magic and second, to continue researching the
Arcane so that the first function may be better exercised. Matters of the
Arcane should be dealt with professionally by all Towers - such is expected
from each of you. As a Clavist, you exist to steward a power that could
destroy us all if not used properly. The acquisition of power is not, and
should not be a selling point to donning the Robes. True and lasting
strength comes from patience and many hours of study. Any who would tell
you otherwise displays a lack of respect for the Conclave, and will subject
it to abuse. It is your responsibility, regardless of robe or rank, to see
the world safe from this abuse.
In political matters - all those that do not pertain to the Arcane - adhere
to the teachings of our Pantheon. Blindly siding with a fellow Clavist who
acts against the Light is not the White Robed way. The Lord has plainly and
openly stated his rejection of vampires; so too must you, regardless of
their affiliation with the Conclave. Our Pantheon also stresses unity, and
in matters of ethos, infighting is strictly prohibited. While I realize you
are committed to fighting the same wars as the Black Robes, understand that
this is nothing more than a political agreement. Do not be the aggressor on
the battlefield. Come to the defense of your colleagues, but refrain from
attacking your fellow good-doers outright. Keep your ties to the rest of
the Light strong, no matter which of its members you war. I encourage you
to reconcile with Gareth's Knights, the more savory members of Justice, and
the elves of Shalonesti off of the battlefield, and to keep your
relationships with these people healthy and strong. Though you fight them
now, it would be unwise to discount them amongst your lasting friends and
allies. There are many brilliant minds outside of the Ivory Tower, and I am
certain they've much to contribute towards the Tower's goals.
You will find success in studying how the White Robes operated before the
Towers converged. Remember that you represent the Light within the
Conclave, and in doing so, are well within your rights to refuse doing
anything you feel might tarnish this representation. Stand firm and strong
against any who would deter you from being a good person by claiming that
your actions "go against Conclave policy." If you have done right by the
Order's Oath, you have acted correctly. Unity does not equate to
faith-draining neutrality. Though you may be one Conclave, each Tower still
retains and is meant to act out its original purpose. Remember that yours
is vastly different from that of your Black Robed counterpart's. There is
no strength in unity if the strength of the individual is diminished by it.
Many scenarios exist in which further conflict may be found. I advise you
to use your best judgment when handling these situations, but if you've
debated concerns, the Church is here to guide you.

The pursuit of perfection is something which all of the followers of the
Light pursue, but all of us fail in it. None of us are perfect, try as
we might, we are not divine and thus not pure. Just as followers of the
Darkness have done kind acts, we of the Light have sinned as well.
We are not wholly of the Light or wholly of the Darkness. It is why
some of us fall and why some of the fallen are redeemed.
We alone know the weight of our sins, of our imperfections, and we alone
are responsible for making things better: no one else.
Helping others is part of what we do, and, from time to time, we help
those of the Darkness see the error in their ways, but not always. Just
know that as long as you recognize your own transgressions and sins, admit
to them, and work on them, then no one can hold them against you.
You can uphold honor even when you aren't perfect. That is the difference,
we choose to work to be better, to make things better. And we will.
If you ever need to talk,
Corszana Snowdragon of Nadrik
Once, there was a poor man with an orchard. Within the copse of trees there grew
an apple tree, short and stubby, with twisted branches.
Year after year, this tree grew no fruit, but upon its branches hung the nests
of the weaver-birds, and the robins, and the sparrows, and hung the skins of the
cicadas, and ants and caterpillars ate its leaves.
But the tree was of no use to the poor man, and one year he decided that he
would cut it down.
The weaver-birds and the robins and the sparrows approached the poor man, and
pleaded with him to not do this thing. "We will sing for you", they said, to
ease your days. But the man was not moved, for there was no music in his heart.
And the cicadas and the ants and the caterpillars came to the man, and asked
him not to do this thing. "We will help the new fruit buds bloom, and eat away
the sickness we find in the leaves." But the man would not listen, for it was
well into fall and the fruits would not come for many months.
And so the creatures pleaded, but the man did not heed them. He picked up his
axe, and began chop at the tree, over and over.
After several strikes, the man hit a hollow spot within the trunk of the apple
tree, and chipping the wood away he found an enormous hive, full of golden
honey.
Greedily, he threw down his axe and dug his hands into the honeycomb, tasting
the delicious treat. His axe was forgotten, and from that day forward he took
great care of the tree.
When should the man have thrown down his axe? And was the honey a coincidence?
We do not always recognize the correct path right away. As mortals, we are
often self-serving. But it is our duty to consider our actions, and whether
or not they will harm others. But in the end, even if we err, good will prevail.
As told by the Lady Priest Torey MacAllen al Kian

Light is much more
Than Darkness can comprehend.
It fills this world with life,
With the setting sun does not end.
With light comes many choices,
Whether good or bad,
That if you were in the Darkness,
You never would have had.
Light gives us hope,
Whether great or small.
Unlike the sad demeanor
On those who into darkness fall.
The light sees worth in all,
Even those who in peril be.
The light will take the time
To help them recovery see.
This message that I bring,
Of hope and strength and light,
Is directed to the Darkness,
To make your day more bright.

Squire Raphaele del Cid was sent to find three sacrifices which reminded
him of Nadrik, and make pilgrimages to three holy places to offer them in
prayer. Here is his account of his journey. - Lorekeeper Datai d'Aggravaine
Presquiring Task - Closer to Nadrik
After some meditation, I set to work choosing three items that represented
Nadrik in three different and important ways. The first, a set of regal
armplates worn by the Constellation of Nadrik itself, a testament to the
strength and defense that is embodied in the Lord and His followers. The
second, the holy Avenger wielded by Marshall Diana of the town of Ofcol.
This weapon and its divine power represents honor, the quest to destroy
evil, and the sacrifices that come with it. The third, a simple tree root,
sharing the color of the uniforms of the men and women of Gareth Keep. This
root is an idea, the idea of potential, the strength of a foundation rooted
in love for His family and His followers that has been growing for all of
time.
The first location I chose happens to be the very location where the
armplates can be found, Nadrik's abode amongst the Constellation of Gods.
The weaponry and armor present remind the visitor that Nadrik sees over the
battlefield and empowers His followers through the armor that protects them
and the weapons they wield. A polished, proper image seems important to
Nadrik, and is in fact a test for His knights. Maintaining one's armor is a
task for the body and mind, a link to the holy images that Nadrik has graced
us with. Here I did offer sacrifice of these armplates, praying to be
armored against all evils, seen and unseen, physically and within.
To the second location I brought the holy Avenger, wielded firmly in my
hands. Upon Tropica I ventured, to the black sands of the southern shore,
where a Temple of Goodness can be found. Inside many followers of the Light
do worship, looking to the paintings and symbols upon the walls as they
explore their faith with each other. Honor, the essence of what Nadrik
represents, can be seen in the forging of this weapon. It is divine, it has
a singular purpose, to inflict harm upon demons and the scourges of the
earth. I decided to come to this spot to share in my prayers with so many
others, a basis in comradery and holy duty. Here I did offer sacrifice of
this sword, swearing to uphold my honor at all costs, to sacrifice myself
whenever required, and praying for the strength to battle the most demonic
of foes that oppose all that is good.
For the third location, I chose a spot both close to the Keep and close to
my faith. Off of Crown Street in Althainia, there is a garden with places
of worship for the gods of Light, a quiet and holy place indeed. It is here
that I have prayed on many occasions, both during my time within Gareth and
the time that came before. Here is where I was interviewed for quality,
here is where I have spoken to priests and commoners, to gods and men. In
this place, the foundation of what is good can be seen and remembered.
Nadrik has always seen to the protection of His family, and nearby are their
places of worship. He shows love to His sister, He would fight for Her to
His last breath, and so should all men and women of Gareth act the same
towards each other. Cooperation and harmony are essential weapons against
the plotting and devious tactics of the evil denizens of the world. We must
be as one, fight as one, celebrate and mourn as one. Together we triumph,
apart we flounder. Here I did offer sacrifice of the root, praying for the
strength to reach my potential, to be much more than just any man. For the
honor of seeking Knighthood and loving and guarding all those whom I could
call brothers and sisters.
- Squire Raphaele del Cid
On Saturday the 17th of September old calender year 2011, Lord Gwaine d'Aggravaine, Champion of Nadrik, and Lady Datai d'Aggravaine, Songstress of Siccara, held a service in honor of Siccara and Nadrik. Many came to the Church of Light in Althainia to hear the sermons.
Lord Gwaine began the service by greeting and offering the following introduction.
Welcome everyone, thank you for coming this eve. This day, we seek to highlight how the tenets and virtues taught us by our Gods find in themselves something beyond co-existence. How the values we are taught extend to co-operation and resonance. How they serve as an example to us all, on how we of the Faith should work together.
It is a poor introduction for so immense a concept ..Yet it shall need suffice, and hopefully, what illumination Lady Datai and my meditations bring to this, shall be lit further by your questions and discussion that I hope will follow.
Upon which Lady Datai presented her sermon:
I was given the question to ponder for today: What benefit does Honor bring to Siccara and Her followers?
Some time ago Lord Gwaine offered me a pair of his old bracers, asking if wearing the emblems of Siccara's brother was acceptable. To which I replied: I'd be glad, for where would a Siccaran be without a Nadrikian to protect her?
While this is a frequently called upon image: Siccara the Healer and Nadrik, Her Protector, it is not just opening jelly jars Nadrik is good for. It is true He is one of the greatest warriors amongst all the Gods. Brute strength and bodyguards can be bought almost anywhere from any pantheon, though, so this is not what makes Honor Her unique protector.
Honor's teachings are more than rescuing damsels and beheading demons. Honor makes a healer's work possible. Healing requires the trust of the patient. If a healer is not trusted it becomes nigh impossible for them to do any good for anyone. If I say to chug two holy beers and call on me in the morning, and you do not believe me and therefore do not do as prescribed, how will you get healed? Certainly not from my ministrations and advice, that's for sure. That is the true protection and value of Honor to a follower of Siccara: trust.
Other aspects of Honor's teachings will only improve upon the healing and service a follower of Siccara may render. Steadfastly seeing a difficult treatment through; this calls to mind a tenet of Nadrik's: "When a goal is set before you, whether by yourself or by another, persevere with great determination until it is reached." Honor's tenets also call for a lack of greed and arrogance, to speak and act with courtesy... things which all will improve your faith in a healer, and things that will improve a healer's practice and reputation. "Never arbitrarily take the life of an innocent..." one of Nadrik's tenets... well, certainly that's a rule I want my healer to adhere to, and I'm sure you do too!
So yes, Honor does protect Siccara, but not by sword and shield alone. A healer who can stand with Nadrik at her side, is one who can be trusted to do Siccara's work in this world. And so together, Brother and Sister, bring good health to those in need.
Thank you all, and now, I would hear what Lord Gwaine has to say about our topic at hand.
And here then Lord Gwaine gave his sermon:
Having a Nadrikian speak on Nadrik - this you all have likely heard many a time before. The Nadrikian ideal is a stern one. The Way is narrow, the directions to walk it - simple. It is in the walking that we mortals falter. Often, it is presumed that we who serve the cause of Good do so blinkered in the narrow focus of the one God to whom our prayers are directed. Yet this is not so.
Our lives and faith are touched, molded and warmed by the influence of the other Gods of the Pantheon of Good. Consider for example, the Nadrikian tenet to pursue justice. "Work for justice, not vengeance, for vengeance is the path of darkness and ruin. Justice is unemotional, it is the law, it is above yourself, and beyond any personal goals that may be had." When the Law is broken, the law breaker must be made to answer for their actions. Justice must be rendered according to the regulations. Whilst this may satisfy the tenet, Siccaran teachings have us look beyond adherence to law to the manner in which justice is enacted.
"She does not seek thy faith in suffering." Siccara does not advocate a punitive justice, rather a restorative one. Thus through meditating on Siccaran teachings and values, one learns to strive for an holistic approach to justice, where the focus shifts from punishing the wrong doer, to balancing it with restoring to them whom wrong was done unto, what was lost.
This is but one example in how Siccaran ideals complement and grow on Nadrikian tenets. Likewise, similarly do messages and teachings of the Light across various Gods resonate and build on the teachings of other Gods of the Light. If the Pantheon of Good, in Their wisdom, interlink Their teachings, and lend to each other towards the Greater Cause of Good ..Surely, we as Their faithful, have an equal responsibility to each other.'
Lady Datai offered a brief and simple prayer after the sermon, and then a song to close the service.
Siccara, may You and Your family guide us all to use each of our talents to best aid one another.
Blessed are we to have another,
To aid in our works, as a brother,
Who stands his ground and guards the fore,
So safely we walk field and moor,
Dismal and cursed places we heal,
With Justice and Compassion's meal,
We nourish and protect the weak,
For them love and joy we seek,
Tirelessly together as sister and brother,
Blessed to protect one another.

I write with a simple lesson and request straight from Siccara, Goddess
of Healing, Herself: Prayer. In this time we need our gods more than ever,
and they need us more than ever, too. Prayer is communication. It is our
connection with our gods.
You may wonder, why does Siccara always talk to Lady d'Aggravaine? Well,
it's because I've always talked to Her. I pray when I'm happy and have had
good fortune and wish to give thanks, and I pray when I need help. I pray
when I see someone who's sick or hurt. She knows I care about Her, and wish
to heal, and thus when She has a problem, She tells me.
She has told me very plainly of the issue at hand: a lack of prayers. For
Her, as Her Church and followers few, but also for Her Family.
I often say, "remember to pause and pray in your busy day". I'm going to
revise that advice: pray through out your busy day. There is not much
pausing needed really. Make prayer a part of what you do. Did you make a
perfect sword? Advance in your guild? Win a battle? Loose a duel? Slay a
demon? Stub your toe on that stupid doorjamb for the millionth time? Well,
pray about it! Prayer brings enrichment to your life's mundane daily
details, and it brings enrichment to our god's lives, for they live and act
in this world through us. All our deeds, great and small, add up to form a
greater good which will spread out and heal the world around us. Prayer is
what connects us to that greater good.
Like anything, prayer requires practice. The time to start stretching your
prayer muscles is now. What a tragedy it would be if Kantilles learned
where a Shard of Seanan was hidden, yet because no one has been praying to
Him, practicing how to commune with Him, no one could hear Him say the
location.
Open the lines of communication with our Gods so we may better spread their
goodness to all. Pray.
<> + <>
Dear Goddess, may we all learn to open our hearts up to You through prayer.
Through this divine communication, may we become a conduit of healing in
this world, able to spread Your sacred power to all those in need of aid.
Thank You for Your blessings, and for always listening to our prayers. May
we answer Yours.

It seems the popular topic of the day is a question about whether those
of a Pantheon should serve side-by-side with those of another Pantheon.
Today a Priest has taken quill to parchment and shown us all a fine example
of foolishness.
While it is true that the duty of a Priest is to spread the word of their
faith and thus gain converts, that role is not limited to Priests. In my
experience people are more often inspired by deeds than they are words and
being the kind of person that inspires others is something anyone can do --
In so doing, they may just help recruit others to their own faith.
Furthermore faith, like anything else, is not strengthened when it is not
challenged and you cannot have your faith challenged if you hide amongst the
crowd that is your own. It is precisely because I have lived my life around
those of other pantheons and had my faith challenged that it is stronger
than its ever been.
Finally faith, at least in my eyes, seems that it is as much about personal
growth as it is about dutiful service to ones deity. Such dutiful service
is no less dutiful simply because you live among those of other pantheon
faiths, but by exposing yourself to others you have the greatest chance of
personal growth -- making you into the best servant you can possibly be.
These things I have written, they seem like common sense to me. But with
attitudes like "Do as *I* say or your faith is not true" that seems like
arrogance and foolishness of the highest order. Regardless of the pantheon,
we all bend the knee only to the God we serve. Unless such a statement
comes directly from said God, it is little more than an attempt at control.
Attempting to control others may just be the fastest way to drive them away
from your cause.
Sincerely,
Damerus Firebeard
Servant of Nadrik

As some know, I was laid low by my hubris in front of my god. I was
foolish and prideful, and it is chastening to be reminded in a very visceral
way that you are not larger than life.
To me, a Knight was that immovable, unyielding rock upon which the tide
breaks, needing nothing, no one. A pillar for others to lean on, but
needing only his own resolve to carve a path for themselves. Now I am
hobbled, requiring aid at every turn, and it is sorely humbling to see so
many faces rush up in aid, and to know that I need it. Once I would have
quelled the attention but pride must be swallowed.
Even as I write this message, pride itself rears it's head, this very act of
contrition opens myself up to the mockeries and derisions of those enemies,
of all walks of life, who nip at my heels. Why I should care at all is
prideful - it is so much easier to know you are feared than to hope you are
respected. Instead, I cast those notions aside; let my trials be a lesson
to anyone who would learn from it.
We are all creatures of Algoron, we all serve those above us. Sometimes the
time is not to question, but to act, and sometimes the time is not to act,
but to be silent; humility and not pride should be the deciding factor.

The Light is often criticized as being hypocritical, and deceitful.
We are labeled failures because we do not always live up to the ideals we
strive for. We are labeled as liars because, out of all the Gods which
remain to the world, we of the Light have fewest of those whose Domains
reconcile with the Natural way of things.
Neutrality, with Creation, Nature, and Conflict. Evil, with Death,
Deception, and Decay. Of Goodness, only Healing might be considered part of
that Natural cycle. Magic is beyond such. Goodness, Neutrality, Evil,
Vengeance, Love, and Honor, all are merely ideals.
Thus, the Light is premised primarily upon the promise of something more
than what can be found, naturally. It is a fiction, a lie told to ease the
pains of life, to bring an arbitrary sense of justice and rightness into a
world where these things do not otherwise exist.
This is true. It is the great weakness of Goodness, that we are called
out as no more than charlatans peddling our potions of virtue, because that
is what we are. Like telling an elf he has pointy ears, it cannot be
denied, and attempts to do so tend to make one look foolish. You cannot
break something into its base parts, and find Love, or Honor.
Why do we persist in this foolishness, then? What purpose could there
possibly be for lying so fully and completely to ourselves and to others?
One might think we were, unbeknownst to ourselves, under the sway of Devion
Himself. Except, there is something that Devion knows very well.
The greatest lies contain an element of truth.
Without these lies, what sort of world would we have? What sort of
future, for ourselves or our children? Procreation, but no love.
Satisfaction, but never happiness. No trust, only fear. We would not cease
to exist, no, but neither could we claim to be truly alive.
These "falsehoods" hold weight in our world. They are represented by
Divinities just as the more natural Domains. We can see and feel their
effects both in the world and in ourselves, even those philosophically
opposed to Goodness. Love and Happiness may be felt by anyone. Why? If
they are nothing more than lies, how can this be possible?
Because we believe in them.
Through our belief, these lies have been transformed into something more.
They are given truth and existence through our fervent and perpetual
devotion to them. They are ideals, and despite their insubstantial nature,
they do exist. Through faith, through love for those around us, and the
hope of a better future for our children than we had passed down to us to
endure, these ideals become real.
Will we always meet those ideals? No, not as mortals. They are ideals,
ideas of perfection, and we can never claim perfection for ourselves. But
we strive for them regardless. The path is not easy. Nothing worthwhile
ever is. Our steps may falter, and we may linger to rest at times. But for
every step forward we take, we make things better. Not just for ourselves,
but for everyone that is and will be.
If you want a brighter future, seek the Light.

A letter to Sir Kuromaru Shiroken, then Bishop of Austinian, from Monsignor Llwellyn
Breingiton Skye regarding the purpose of the Church of Light.
Mon Jun 11 12:53:04 2012
Dear Bishop,
Siccara came unto me and bid me gather her followers and form her church.
So I created Annaid Aingeal, which means simply Church of Light. Since that
time we have grown beyond our origins as others have come to me asking to
join.
Many of different faiths belong to the congregation, all sharing a vision
and purpose for the future. Our goals and beliefs are simple, to foster the
growth of light and spread our faith. We are not a military with ranks and
such. We are a congregation of like-minded individuals striving towards a
common goal. Congregation members have a few obligations. To always act as
befits a child of the Light, with goodness and kindness and to attend the
services we hold.
There are times the congregation works on projects. The hospital on Tropica
was one, the lair for a Brass another, the hospital on Icewall and also one
on Arkane. Please know that while donations are always welcome they are
never required for membership.
May the blessings of Siccara shine upon thee, may Her light heal
thee and grant thee comfort from thy pain,
Monsignor Llwellyn Breingiton Skye
Chosen of Siccara
Priestess of the Church of Light

Solitude can be quite beautiful, because we are never truly alone. The
internal world, the world within our own minds and hearts, has more richness
and fullness to it than a lifetime of imagining could ever capture. It is a
place we can explore and discover and learn from. It is a place we can
cultivate and nourish--where great works of art or brilliant insights of
wisdom are first discovered. And it is a place that we must travel alone.
For some--for many, in fact--this challenge can feel overwhelming. Many of
us dedicate massive amounts of energy to avoiding the internal world.
Perhaps you know someone who must keep themselves tremendously busy at all
times in order feel at all satisfied. For some, the very notion of sitting
alone by themselves is a torture. There is a massive resistance to looking
inward.
I do not mean to say that a life filled with work and responsibilities is
bad. The momentum of the world would stop if everyone just abandoned all
activity. But before any of us can rise to those challenges and
responsibilities before us, we must first nurture a capacity to be fully
present for ourselves. We must understand the shape and scope of the
internal world, and make our own space within it.
We can often experience loneliness amongst a crowd. And we might feel
restless when left alone without guidance or instruction. This sort of
feeling does not come from a separation from the world so much as a
separation from ourselves. Look to the guiding light within. Make a
trusted friend of yourself.

Vassals of Good,
Yes. Vassals. That is an accurate word to describe one who follows a God or
Goddess. Your life becomes an extension of their influence, their love, their
triumphs and their duty. It is a mutual obligation or acceptance of not only
an idea, but of a higher power.
That is what we, the men and women of Kantilles, are. We have a duty and a
responsibility to our Lord and to the Army of Light, and those are where
our religious responsibilities and allegiances lie. Our hearts ought to be
filled to the brim with fidelity, but there are people who have forgotten
their purpose in this world, within the Church of the Light and within the
Towers of the Conclave.
Those who follow Kantilles outside of the Conclave, remember this: You have
a duty to Kantilles to spread and live his ideas. Forgiveness and acceptance
is the Light's most powerful tool, for both lead to unity which bolsters the
strength of the Light. Gather enough motes of good, and there shines a power
bright enough to repel the most insidious and darkest of armies.
Those who follow Kantilles inside of the Conclave, remember this: You are all
champions of Good with the duty to heed the call of battle when the war that
determines the fate of Algoron comes. You are a soldier in the Army of Good,
a vassal of Kantilles, and no one else. When you donned those white robes,
you took a side in the war to come. The individual goals of Kantilles,
Sebatis and of Drakkara are separate in contrast to the goals of the entity
referred to as the Trinity. The Trinity is NOT Kantilles.
Never forget where your heart and head lie in the road ahead, my friends,

First, love yourself:
To find love and happiness elsewhere in the world, you must be at peace
with who you are. Do not reject yourself or withhold self-acceptance
because of perceived imperfections. Accept yourself as you are, and out of
love and respect for yourself you may seek improvement. See yourself as
worthy of Love, as She sees you.
Second, love your family:
Accept the mortal nature of your family, by blood or choice. They, as
you, are prone to mistakes and faults. They, as you, are worthy of Love.
Respect them as yourself. This extends to your parents, elder or younger
relatives, friends, as well as your partner. Help them to grow as
individuals, while remembering their individuality: they must walk their own
path in life. Accept imperfection as what makes them unique, and forgive
their mistakes and faults made in error, as She does for us.
Third, love your neighbor:
The people around you, from beggars to kings, have their own trials and
troubles which they endure, just as you. They come from different
backgrounds, different families, and bear different perspectives by default.
Their impact on your life may be great or small, and likewise may you impact
their lives. Accept their mortal nature, and recognize that their path in
life is no less important or valid than your own, despite any differences.
Offer them the same compassionate acceptance and respect that you would wish
for them to show you. That which is objectionable to you, do not impose
upon them. See them as equals, as She sees all of us.
Fourth, love your enemy:
Just as your neighbor, your enemy has had their own experiences, and
their path in life has lead them to a place in opposition to your own. This
does not make their path invalid, for we are all products of our past. You
have not endured their history, as they have not endured yours. Recognize
that pain inflicted is often pain felt, and thus may you understand their
sorrow and suffering. Offer them compassion as you would to a neighbor. Do
not pursue aggression or conflict, but do not suffer it when it is offered
to you: to defend what you Love is itself an act of Love. Do not rejoice in
their defeat, but grieve that conflict became necessary, as She grieves it.
Fifth, love the world:
Every being in the world is a product of past experience. We each have
our own path to walk, and while Taliena prefers those paths which respect
the happiness of others, no path is less valid than another. Love the world
as you love yourself. Accept what you cannot change, and seek improvement
out of compassion, not hatred. Recognize that you are part of the world, as
all are, and are therefore connected to all regardless of distance or other
barriers. Recognize that through service to others you serve yourself, as
well as those you love. Feel the joys and pains of the world as your own,
as She feels them.

Friends,
Many things seem in motion, swirling of powers that often make us feel lost
and overwhelmed in the face of these problems. So I shall offer this
council for those who's heart and spirit cry out for help.
Close your eyes and listen. Do you hear your heart? That organ of life
beats hundreds of times a day yet you rarely notice it. So often we are
busy with our work, our worries, maybe our fears. Sometimes we notice it
but most days we don't. Open your eyes and look around, really look. Do
you see a baker? That person's work will feed and sustain people. Do you
see a parent with their children? Their love will help nurture them to
grow. See that guard by the gate? They will protect the people they care
about.
Good works are not easily noticed because they are not meant to be. They
are done not for prestige or accolades, they are done as a gift. No bow or
wrapping, just the intent to help another. So perhaps you have not noticed
us but we have been here. We work towards a better world regardless of what
surrounds us. If you are in need, you know where to find us. We will not
judge you or admonish. We know the weight you carry. All we seek to do is
help you find a way forward. We shall do so with civility and respect of
which all beings are entitled to.
In spite of all that surrounds you, the ability of people to act together
for a common goal has a power unto itself. Come together, support each
other, raise up the ones who need the most help. It is only together that
we shall overcome our issues. If we believe in this, then we will never be
alone. If we live this, then we will never lose hope. There is strength
that we can find in each other, if only we look and listen.
Should any wish to speak, you know where to find me.
Geirhart
