Caenarfon gives his Clerist Sermons

You clan 'I'm starting the sermons now.'

You say 'These two sermons show of the tenets of the trinity, and of Virtue.'

You say 'Austinian provided to his children five sanctities, a mantra and five

tenets all of which make up the "Sacraments of Faith". All encompass the moral

virtue which we have learned in Gareth Keep by way of the eight virtues which

sum together to complement these holy texts.'

You say 'The sanctities cover salvation and redemption, faith, honesty and

justice. The latter affirms the path of the Keep, that is the means justify the

ends.'

You say 'The tenets cover temperance, falseness, resolution, moderation and

diligence.'

You say 'Nadrik speaks for honor.'

You say 'He speaks of loyalty, truth and justice as things we find in our own

virtues, or are derivatives of them.'

You say 'His honour is reknown as the Son is its champion.'

You say 'Humility and pride are of a balance, which has ever-erred towards

humility. '

You say 'Love oneself and others and be proud to serve good, but in that pride

be aware that you are the servant and as such humility is the greater virtue.'

You say 'He speaks of Greed. Of these ancient oaths were taken in Serpantol to

poverty, chastity and obedience. A good soul is not here for oneself, but for

that of others.'

You say 'Although we do not takes the lives of innocents, we slay those who

would take those lives as a means of preservation of that innocence.'

You say 'Siccara's creeds can be found in any healing institution in Algoron.'

You say 'Harm and suffering are not to come to any upon Algoron, Her enemy is

disease.'

You say 'To bring healing to this land is to remove such negative instances of

Dragoth.'

You say 'She expects us to keep Her faith, and allows us our fallible wisdom to

best guide the lives of those present upon Algoron.'

You say 'That is an encapsulation of the Tenets of the Trinity.'

You say 'Any questions?'

Caenarfon puts his arms into the folds of his robes.

You say 'So for Virtue.'

You say 'I shall speak not of the Virtues themselves, but their origins'

You say 'There are eight virtues, stemming from three principles'

You say 'These three principles form the basis of our virtues, that is Truth,

Love and Courage.'

You say 'Truth is the truth that is inherent in all things. It is the truth

that we discover when we are able to see clearly, free from other

distractions.'

You say 'Love is the love that we find in our hearts for all things. Love is

what drives us to do acts of kindness. To love is to see beauty and joy all

around.'

You say 'Courage is strength of spirit and determination to act for the greater

good. Courage to never give up, and to face overwhelming odds bravely.'

You say 'Our first three virtues stem directly from each principle alone.'

You say 'Honesty for Truth, Compassion for Love and Valour for Courage.'

You say 'The others are for their combination.'

You say 'Truth and Love make Justice'

You say 'Love and Courage make Sacrifice'

You say 'Courage and Truth combined create Honour'

You say 'From all three together make Spirituality.'

You say 'Pride is caused by the absence of the Three Principles, the opposite

of Pride is Humility.'

You say 'And that is the origins of Virtue.'

You say 'Any questions?'

Caenarfon puts his arms into the folds of his robes.

Hyathes shakes his head.

Mercerion says 'How would we apply these virtues and codes into fighting

Malachive.'

Jayl smiles encouragingly at you.

You say 'Good question.'

You say 'Let us look to the virtues.'

Hyathes looks at you with curiosity.

You say 'Each one of these virtues show us how we ought to act.'

You say 'Virtue is the little voice inside each good person, telling them how

to act.'

You say 'Each speaks differently per individual, but they all go in the same

direction.'

You say 'They show us the right path to take, because in choosing how we act,

we have shown the means to be more important than the ends.'

You say 'Malachive speaks of Chaos and Freedom.'

You say 'Release from the 'tyranny' of all the Gods followed upon Algoron.'

You say 'While this might easily be cast off as blasphemous, let us let the

challenge stand.'

You say 'If Malachive's precepts of Chaos and freedom to be embodied in virtue,

let us look to each ideology.'

You say 'Chaos speaks against the virtues in principle. You need order,

otherwise there is no honesty to be enforced, no justice to enforce it. Not

compassion for the weak - only the strong survive when there are no rules.'

You say 'So upon this self proclaimed point, he does not stand for virtue.'

You say 'But the principle of freedom is a different story.'

Mercerion raises a hand.

You say 'Virtue enourages the ability of those to self determination, not

submission.'

You say 'Yes?'

Mercerion says 'Perhaps We have derailed some. I withdraw my question for

further discussion later. Let us return to the virtues, aye?'

Jayl crosses his eyebrows, and leans heavily on a pillar.

You say 'It is a good question.'

You grin.

You say 'Knighthood has always fought a certain way.'

Nyree says softly 'May I ask, Sir, how do you see the Keep's role as it relates

to the Virtues?'

You say 'With honour chiefly.'

You say 'With Valour certainly.'

You say 'Compassion, upon occasion.'

You say 'Justice, without a doubt.'

You say 'Sacrifice, we have all lost friends in this regard.'

Rassilon lifts a hand.

You say 'Spiritually for our deities, and humbly, not for our own glory, but

for the Knighthood.'

You nod at Rassilon.

Rassilon says softly 'What of mercy?'

Bolter has entered the realm.

Jayl salutes Bolter.

Bolter salutes.

You say 'Mercy should be granted to the deserving my son.'

You salute Bolter.

Hyathes salutes Bolter.

Rassilon shakes his head.

You say 'But there are enemies who will not grant, nor are deserving of mercy,'

Rassilon says softly 'I mean, how does it fit into the virtues'

You say 'But the enemy who dismounts when your horse is slain deserves yours

into return.'

You say 'I suppose it is a combination of justice, compassion and sacrifice.'

You say 'Justice, as they are owed it.'

You say 'Compassion as we have thought upon them.'

You say 'And sacrifice as our trophy is taken from us.'

Rassilon nods sagely.

Rassilon says softly 'I see'

You say (to Nyree) 'What was your question daughter of Austinian?'

Nyree says softly (to You) 'On the role of this Keep as it relates to the

Virtues, Sir.'

You say 'The virtues are a guide to what we believe to be right daughter of

Austinian.'

You say 'We have a certain ethos here at Gareth.'

Nyree says softly 'Do you consider, then, that we then look to these Virtues

to make our decisions?'

You say 'Which demands that we give the best of ourselves to other people and

this keep.'

You say 'They are an aid daughter, but the decision is ours.'

You say 'Consider the moral dilemma, those cannot be solved by virtues from a

text book.'

You say 'They require weighting and judgement.'

You say 'we are taught to obey without question on the field.'

You say 'But the spiritual and moral mind of a knight is his own.'

Caenarfon puts his arms into the folds of his robes.

Temple of Nadrik

The feeling of holiness is strong within this room. It seems to radiate

from each wall, object, person and even the air itself seems charged with

it. The alabaster floor of marble stretches out in front of you and makes

no sound as you walk upon it. A stone fountain separates two columns of

pews that face an altar in front of the western wall. A large tapestry is

hanging delicately on the western wall, just below it is a golden plate and

a brass plaque. Tucked into a corner beside the altar is an arched door of

solid oak.

[Exits: north east south ]

An alabaster knight kneels before a white marble statue of Nadrik.

A fountain bubbles quietly in the center of the room.

Hardwood pews fill the room.

An altar of red oak stands in front of the western wall.

(Golden Aura) Bolter MacLeod is here.

(Golden Aura) Jayl MacGregor is here.

(Golden Aura) Rassilon is here.

(Golden Aura) Mercerion Mamoritai is here.

(Golden Aura) Nyree is here.

(Charmed) A Knight's silver war-horse stands here ready to carry it's rider to

battle.

(Golden Aura) Hyathes Deza'th is here.

Nyree says softly 'And to the world outside of Gareth? Are we protectors of

Virtue or must we embody each ideal? '

You say 'We are to be avatars for the people.'

You say 'Exemplary moral examples for the people to look up to and follow. '

You say 'We are natural leaders and role models.'

Mercerion says 'Beacons then.'

You say 'The People look to us to determine how to act.'

You say (to Mercerion) 'Indeed milord.'

You say 'So although we are fallible, we aspire to be the closest to moral

perfection.'

You say 'A tall order indeed.'

You say 'Any further questions?'

Mercerion ponders.

You say 'I'm sure the Cardinal has a different take on virtue, and mercy if you

were interested.'

Mercerion says (to You) 'Asking for a take on mercy from a Lancer?'

You chuckle.

You say 'His mind was made up long before he joined the lance my son.'

Hyathes whispers 'Excuse me, I must take my leave.'

Hyathes bows.

Mercerion nods at Hyathes.

Jayl nods at Hyathes.

Mercerion says 'The way I see it, Give 'em once chance.'

Bolter ponders.

Mercerion says 'If you find them continuing their path, after mercy is offered,

then their mind is made.'

Bolter says 'I see it this way.'

Bolter says 'When they take the field, their choice is made.'

Bolter says 'In good conscience one cannot risk the lives of his fellow knights

by showing mercy then and there. '

Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'What about one Kergil Murfee, converted

from the Horde, who now serves our ranks.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Was that done during battle?'

Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'after the first and only offering of

mercy.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'I am not familiar with that situation.'

Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'Perhaps the exception that makes the rule.'

Mercerion smiles at Bolter.

Bolter raises an eyebrow.

Bolter says 'Not necessarily.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Was he outnumbered?'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Was he very well at your mercy?'

Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'It was myself against him, alone.'

Bolter says 'Ah, good.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Then there was no risk to other knights.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'A very different situation.'

Nyree tells the group 'Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'It was myself

against him, alone, so yeah, he was outnumbered.''

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Consider this.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'You and nine other knights are on the

field, opposite you are ten of our enemies, whom, it matters not.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'The battle begins, you square off with an

opponent and after a lengthy fight, he begs mercy.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'You grant it.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'You move on to another opponent.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'The man you grant mercy to approaches

another knight from behind and slays him.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Where was your mercy for the knight?

Where was your compassion for the knight?'

You say 'Lost in his own action it would seem Cardinal.'

Bolter says (to You) 'Had the good General slain the enemy, then such would not

have come to be.'

Bolter says 'There is a time and place for mercy and compassion.'

Bolter says 'The other times are for Justice and wrath.'

Bolter says 'If opportunity is available, yes.'

Bolter says 'By all means grant mercy.'

Bolter says 'BUT'

Bolter says 'Do not do so at the risk of innocents.'

Bolter says 'They took they field with sword against the light.'

Bolter says 'If they are slain, such is just.'

Rassilon lifts a hand.

Bolter says (to You) 'I yield the floor back to you of course.'

Rassilon says softly '"We do not grant mercy at the risk of innocents" you

said'

You say 'I have not had you yield before Cardinal.'

You grin.

Bolter smiles.

Bolter nods at Rassilon.

Rassilon says softly 'Are we, as members of the Knighthood, considered such?'

Bolter says (to Rassilon) 'All are innocent who have not embraced evil or

dishonorable ways.'

Bolter motions to the last tenet on the golden plaque.

Mercerion says 'So what of Graystoke.'

Mercerion glances at Bolter.

You say 'Greystoke are not evil, nor dishonourable.'

Mercerion says 'They have those who bear golden auras there.'

You say 'Just misguided.'

Bolter says 'Perhaps I shall try to make it clearer.'

Bolter says 'When one takes the field against the righteous, they have made

their decision. If they are slain, such is indeed just.'

Jayl agrees with Bolter.

Jayl says 'Ah cin agree wit' that.'

Bolter says 'If it is possible, and they do seek such, then yes mercy can be

granted.'

Bolter says 'PROVIDING.'

Bolter says 'It does not endanger the innocent.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'You let a man go with mercy, what will

your thoughts be if he slays a knight when you could have prevented such?'

You say 'As it is, Greystoke is not upheld to our ideals of virtue and mercy.'

You say 'No one else is, we stand alone at the summit of the moral high

ground.'

Bolter nods at you.

Bolter says (to You) 'Indeed so.'

Bolter says 'I am all for the granting of mercy, I really am.'

Bolter says 'But, not at the risk of comrades.'

You say 'We can only expect such virtue from our other knights.'

Mercerion nods at Nyree.

Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'I do not argue your stance because I

disagree.'

Mercerion smiles at Bolter.

Mercerion says (to Bolter MacLeod) 'I simply wish to thoroughly cover every

aspect.'

Bolter says (to Mercerion Mamoritai) 'Then sir, what is your position on my

words?'

Mercerion smiles.
