Kadiya Day Services

Kadiya Day is observed the last Sunday of February. This holiday is set aside for Love and Remembrance in honor of the Goddess of Peace, Kadiya. It has become tradition to observe this day in Gareth Keep in our Chapel of Fallen Heroes. To take time to celebrate and remember Knights past, and rejoice in our comrades beside us. On this scroll are the prayers, poems, songs and speeches which have been shared at our Kadiya Day Services.

- Lord Thrakhath Nar'gyatt, General of the Lance

Song of Steel

Song of steel, a brother's sorrow,

Held in the darkness of no tomorrow,

Black moon's prison, where despair is bright,

Bound by lies, a brother's plight.

Chorus:

Fear not the depths of hell,

Let not dark anger dwell,

Cave not to heart's black lease,

Song of steel, a sister's peace.

Song of steel, a brother's torment,

Held in the darkness of a heart rent,

Black moon's maze, where the lost fight,

Bound by sorrow, a brother's lost sight.

(Chorus)

Song of steel, a brother's despair,

Held in the darkness of one not there,

Black moon's horror, where cruelty a delight,

Bound by guilt, a brother's night.

(Chorus)

Song of steel, a brother's salvation,

Released in joy of one's rightful station,

Black moon eclipsed, where He brings Light,

Lies, sorrow, guilt broken, a brother's might.

Song of steel, banish the fears,

Song of steel, banish the tears,

Song of steel, justice released,

Song of steel, a sister's peace.

- Dame Datai Amberillo, Captain of the Shield

Kadiya Day Prayer

M'lord, and m'lady.

Kadiya's words, her wisdom, and nourishment. Still reside in this realm, and in our hearts.

I pray that this day, even though battle on our mind, and a battle to ensue. That we continue to look upon our brethren and sisters, with love and care.

That we are strong enough to even say to those we dislike, hatred not in our souls, that we are able to bring forth the strength and in our own way show our gratitude for the personalities that we are blessed to have around us.

I pray this day that we as can as one, become one, and with love see each other in a different light. Not simple darkness, not simple light, but the soul that resides in each.

In the lights name, and in Kadiya's name. Amen.

- Sir Branzol Snowdragon, Lieutenant of the Lance

Of Perseverance and Remembrance

Inspired by Dame Datai Amberillo.

Countless have fallen in this ne'erending war,

Both Gods and mortals, dead by the score.

This fight, our will it doth sap,

Like beer, from Dame Amberillo's leaky tap.

Naught but bitterness lie in its wake,

What's a Knight to do for goodness sake?

We strike and we strike, till we can't strike no more,

Heart-pounding combat, soon turns to bore.

Though it seems a lancer's worst fear,

To shy from combat, like a meek little deer.

A time of reflection is truly at hand,

Like a ship lost at sea, guided to land.

So too shall we pray, for the guidance we need,

Regardless of response, we should still heed.

For these troubles, no mortal can bear,

Only with divine aid, may we avoid despair's deadly snare.

Remember the fallen, who have gone before us.

Let not their sacrifice be naught but dust.

Go my brethren! Fight the good fight.

Good will prevail and darkness we'll smite.

- Sir Cairhien MacLeod, Knight of the Lance.

A Kadiya Day Prayer

I wish to bid my thanks to our Lords and Ladies, those of our Pantheon who take up what Kadiya has left behind.

Kadiya was a sacrifice, something greater yet mirroring many sacrifices Gareth and the Light have experienced throughout history.

A sacrifice for something that is vital to all our lives. And just as we reflect on Gunnar's sacrifice and Nadrik's Glory, we should reflect on this sacrifice and how Kadiya brought Glory to Herself and those that follow Her teachings.

And when we have gods whom will fight for our safety, it is something I have found as a source of comfort, despite the times.

Blessed be the Pantheon that grieved, and the Lady that sacrificed.

- Squire Edirne Adun

A Perspective on Peace

Peace and tranquility have oft been prescribed as the passive soft underbelly of the Light. For many years, there was strife within the pantheon of the Light, the peace of Kadiya preached as a yielding submissions to pacifism.'

Yet, I say that peace and pacifism are not the same.

Lady Kadiya stood for a peace engulfed in the warmth and glory of the Light. A peace where the exchange of the basic virtues of compassion, justice, sacrifice, honor, humility, and honesty may happen freely.

This is not the pacifist peace, of laying down for those of evil to march over the faithful.

Rather, it is the militant peace of creating a world where the Light can shine brightly.

A cause this Keep espouses, has fought for and will continue to fight for.

- Lord Gwaine d'Aggravaine, General of the Crown

A Prayer of Peace and Honor

To know Honor and to know Peace are not two things that far separated from those whom walk the path of the light.

If one is peaceful they must also know Honor as well, otherwise there would be no peace other to a few. But there is also the path of honor that seeks to punish those of the dark path to show them the error of their ways.

It is seeking both of these extremes that we find our own path. Without knowing one or the other we only can see one way, and not see any other way.

If we are succeed in the battle to come and to help honor Lady Kadiya we must give honor to all of those of the light and have faith that we will win in the battle to come and see peace from this.

We will save Lord Nadrik once we gather the remaining shards, and Lady Kadiya would be proud of us to see her brother saved by that of mortal hands.

- Sir Regus Draven, Knight of the Shield

The Sorrow of Lord Rheidyr Glain

First, I clearly remember his long auburn hair,

As I read the scrolls I wonder if history was fair,

To a man who so loved honor and our knighthood,

A love unrequited and oft misunderstood,

Saddled with a Keep destined to tear itself in twain,

I will recount my memories of Lord Rheidyr Glain.

How the Lord Shield and I would come to meet,

Would be on Althainia’s city street,

My friend Ayanami Rei already joined with the Keep,

In the Great Red’s way she was magicked asleep.

Lord Rheidyr rode forth, and to his surprise,

He was not the only one to answer Ayanami’s cries,

This Aspirant loner bard inbound he saw,

Without much ado punched the Red in the jaw,

With paladin bravely engaged in the terrible fray,

I took the opportunity to drag Ayanami away.

When all was settled, he smiled and praised my bravery,

Though I suspected he’d never before seen such idiocy.

I remember the amused smile that arose,

When finally I was welcomed among the pew rows.

Oh so joyful a time, happy and plain,

So far away from the sorrow of Lord Rheidyr Glain.

To the Keep, time eventually came,

When the great Lord Seal wished to end his reign,

A choice between two generals arose,

Lord Xybian Madaur with fury and blood for his foes,

And piously tempered Lord Rheidyr Glain of the Shield,

So decided wisdom was the greatest weapon to wield,

Upon that the great general did depart for elvenhome,

But the schism between war and mercy had already grown.

In short time it was before Rheidyr, Lord Crown, I kneeled,

And then arose a Knight of his beloved Shield,

Eager to serve as a Dame, I bid him for a command,

He smiled gently as he issued his demand,

“Sit in this pew, bring cheer, and raise morale.”

So I have done since, as time does allow,

Though I sang of joy and did entertain,

The seed of sorrow was already born for Lord Rheidyr Glain.

With Dame Ayanami and I loyal Knights of the Shield,

Lord Rheidyr ensured we were not unarmed in the field,

To us was distributed a small pamphlet,

Which he and High Justice Lordon had put to print,

Of the virtues a Knight aught to espouse,

Chivalry, and even knightly advice on getting a spouse.

Thus armed we attempted to temper the mighty Lance,

Blood-soaked, with a warmongering stance,

Though applauded for our piety,

To all our demands, Lord Rheidyr would not see,

“Mark my words,” Clerist Ayanami Rei would tell,

“These blood thirsty knights will drag us all down into Hell.”

The frustration of all none could disguise,

Though with Lord Circe at the Lance, we had a brief reprise,

Still the sorrowful schism of war and mercy would remain,

Young verses the old, humble born versus the noble name,

Every issue a chance to reopen the old wound,

And Lord Rheidyr tried to guide us from this doom.

When rumor of Shalonesti falling to undead,

Few in the Keep would have a cool head,

To wage war against our noble allies of old,

Was a thought that set our blood cold,

Yet some knights readied sword with delight,

To drink the blood of alleged blood drinkers of night,

Still gentle, merciful, and steady our Lord would remain,

For the sins of a single tree, he would not put a forest to flame.

To this young bard, all seemed another excuse to debate,

So I’d sit on my pew, sing and patiently wait,

Till I’d see Lord Rheidyr start to bless,

(Which I liked to watch, I confess,)

He’d smile and beckon me to his side,

And into battle we would ride.

With he and I there were no debates on who or why,

Together we only sought the most vile things in the sky,

Not petty criminals or the latest political mire,

Our hearts and souls ablaze with dragon fire.

Tempered by lightning, flame, and frost,

We’d stand firm even if all was lost,

As we were when we first met,

As high as a paladin and his bard could get,

With Lord Gwaine or someone else we might patrol along,

But no one else quite shared our dragon slaying song,

I cannot recall a single time my Lord and I won,

But our hearts and souls were pure after the hunt was done,

Sorrow dispelled by dragon’s flame,

We’d return to a keep tearing itself in twain.

One by one, the fury of angry knights felt,

To Lord Rheidyr wounds from all sides were dealt,

Alone on a middle path grown cold,

Lord Rheidyr lacked Lord Seal’s tongue of gold.

No compromise or great vision,

Seemed to heal the growing division,

Then one fateful day, alas,

The High Clerist’s prophecy came to pass,

When to hate and anger Alistian finally fell,

The anti-paladin dragged many a knight down into Hell,

But no fall that day so hard to watch and see,

Lord Rheidyr alone in such sorrow and fury,

We all guilty in one way or another I could name,

Ultimately the Lord Crown would shoulder the blame,

To Lord Leumas Circe he passed the unforgiving task,

What sadness my friend paladin did bravely mask,

I sat upon my pew, sang and did patiently wait,

But as he blessed, with sorrow to me he did state,

“To restore my honor, I hunt the anti-paladins alone.”

And away I watched him ride from our broken home,

Never again would I see Lord Rheidyr Glain,

But always with me will his memory and song remain.

Oh so joyful a time, happy and plain,

So far away from the sorrow of Lord Rheidyr Glain.

The Peace Worth Fighting For

Tranquility and calm,

Repose and meditation

The solemn quiet of unsullied thought

Peace to practice the virtues of the Light

Peace bought with valour and courage

With honorable service and dedication.

Then we ask, what is this peace?

Shall we massacre and bloodlet,

to secure peace, and once had,

What is this peace worth?

Thus the answer returns,

Peace is as all of the Light,

It is the Way and the Goal.

It is the peaceful spirit

and the calm of mind.

Knowing the cause is righteous,

the battle is necessary.

The inner peace of duty discharged.

Another step in the struggle

Securing a peaceful tomorrow

One battle at a time.

- Lord Gwaine d'Aggravaine, General of the Crown

A Kadiya Day Prayer

With heads bowed and hearts open, we offer a prayer to our Lords and Ladies.

On this day of Love and Remembrance, we commune to recognize both.

In solitude or fellowship, today, we remember the Fallen Lady of Peace, and the burden Lady Taliena carried forth from Her stilled hand - the hope of peace.

We remember those Knights who have walked these halls before us, and welcome home our brothers and sisters who will follow.

We ask much of our Lords and Ladies - we ask for fortitude, wisdom and grace, and we give our thanks for the gift of blessings received.

Today, we ask for naught.

We remember our Lord Nadrik in His peril.

And call upon our own fortitude, wisdom and grace to stand together in the Light for Him.

Amen.

Kadiya Day Haiku:

"Morning comes at last,"

"To stop the disturbing dreams,"

"Bird song restores peace."

What we Fight For

At this time, we stand on the frontline. To speak of peace - of non violence, it may seem to detract from what we do. Yet, in truth, the battle has many ways to be fought - and those whom would fight it in their own way, well .. that is their own choice.

Beyond this though, there is one other element. The understanding of what we fight for. And in this future, if we do not understand peace, then perhaps, we do not understand what we fight for.

So, this day, we thank Lady Kadiya. For Her message, and Her sacrifice. That though we battle now, we battle in hope for a day when peace shall reign and goodness is triumphant.

- Lord Gwaine d'Aggravaine

Ode to Kadiya

Alas! Such woeful news has come,

a Goddess is lost to Algoron.

The Lady of Peace treacherously slayed,

by Devion's hand the Gods' betrayed.

Kadiya was a ray of hope for those who sought peace,

in dark and shattered lands battle never will cease.

Most dwelling here face constant war abound,

bringing death to Algoron's killing grounds.

Petty differences often saw,

Algoron consumed by ceaseless war.

Wars of conquest and obliteration,

innocent souls faced annihilation.

Racial hatred shed Her tears,

different creeds brought war for years.

Good and evil fought to Her dismay,

She knew neither would hold sway.

Neither gaining the upper hand She felt much frustration,

whilst good and evil bought each other's desolation.

But Kadiya's enlightened few saw what would come,

of a world without conflict, without war's drum.

A world of prosperity to all who seek peace,

no anger, violence but a quality of life increase.

Those brave enough to make this path their own,

did not deserve now to walk it alone.

Five pillars of faith Kadiya leaves to Her flock,

Five lessons to peace for Algoron to unlock.

While we consider these paths to peace,

a thought to the Goddess whose life has now ceased.

Devotion to Her to keep Her memory alive,

that which She stood for so peace could thrive.

Unity and understanding between races and creeds,

for working together for peace is what everyone needs.

Selflessness of ourselves as we give what we can,

with giving comes Unity between kingdoms and clans.

Kindness to others with respect - is that too much to ask?

Treating them as we treat ourselves is not such a task.

Serenity is found when we have peace in our soul,

leaving conflict and stress behind ought to be everyone's goal.

As for Devion's contemptuous betrayal,

the Father of Goodness will calmly prevail.

But not of the way of murderous Fatale's hand,

nor by vengeful wrath of Mencius' evil band.

We shall mourn the passing of the Lady of Peace,

then determine how judgement is then best released.

Gareth Keep will do all to see justice met,

according to Knighthood's virtuous tenet.

Those who are come of Kadiya's mold,

Welcome then to sister Taliena's fold.

Together we grieve with you this day,

and join in empathy together in your dismay.

Then when our time of grieving is past,

we think of Her lessons before action is passed.

- Loremaster Sehvelarious Iolius

To Return Again, a ballad of Sir Hengst PferdRitter

Tue Mar 1 04:42:33 2011

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes I long for the days and Knights of old,

Alas, I cannot return, but tales and stories are told,

Here I sing of a Knight strong and fair,

Crystal blue eyes and golden blond hair,

One day he would ride among the paladins,

Humble warrior of the Order of Austinians,

The accent is vat ve remember der most,

Of his deeds, Herr Hengst would never boast,

Came to the Knighthood with faith and knowledge,

Yet in Arkane Town Center this was little edge,

Gentle warrior was little good in a fight,

But he would patrol far and wide as is right,

As we travel onwards we cannot always return,

But always we carry the lessons we learn,

What his wise elders of the Order did teach,

Aside from how to rescue damsels and preach,

Was geography, and what is more,

Magical secrets to aid in his tour,

On his patrol with a simple prayer,

He knew a way to randomly appear anywhere,

Again and again he would ride,

Trying to land where evil did hide,

What he hoped to do, he'd not thought that far,

Thankfully Austinian watched over His rising star,

As we travel onwards we cannot always return,

But always we carry the lessons we learn,

One fateful day his random patrol did land,

On rocking wooden floor he did slowly stand,

In the stinking hold of a beastly ship,

Carefully above deck he did slip,

Anchored at rest in cove vile and black,

Pirates snoozing in hall after their latest attack,

Their pride, The Wraith, needed no introduction,

Sir Hengst took advantage of the rum consumption,

For among the lessons his Elders did avail,

Was how to operate a ship and sail,

As we travel onwards we cannot always return,

But always we carry the lessons we learn,

Plank hoisted, ropes tied, anchor raised,

Mast climbed, sails unfurled, he was hardly phased,

What's a Knight to do with pirate ship found?

Obviously sail to the Armada to impound!

"Avast, Pirates!" called their kender lookout,

But only a Knight above deck to return the shout,

"I haf captured der Vraith, vere should I dock?"

All gaped, amazed, only the kender could talk,

So to Sir Hengst the Armada had praise and thanks,

News of his single-handed feat spread through the ranks,

As we travel onwards we cannot always return,

But always we carry the lessons we learn,

The Pirates were delivered the ultimate humiliation,

For days we heard cries of anger, indignation,

Yet through the din the question arose:

How did Sir Hengst do it? No one knows!

Perhaps Austinian's hand placed him there?

But to one inquiring bard the truth he did share:

Deep within Arkainia's enchanted wood,

Locked in the Crystal palace a portal stood,

Years later curiosity would lead me that way,

The Gods of Magic had closed it, to my dismay.

As we travel onwards we cannot always return,

But always we carry the lessons we learn.

Colonel,

Below please find my contribution for the Kadiya Day celebration. I am not

the author of the poem. I thought it appropriate to share with my comrades.

I selected this poem as it speaks to the reader the importance of living

each days as best we are able. When we are called home, we are not mourned

but remembered fondly in the hearts of our kin.

Mamoratai

Shield Knight

Creed

I would live this life so well

Strangers of me praise might tell

Somehow I would like to be

Cherished here in memory

Not as one whose skill was great

Nor as one who conquered fate

Not as one who rose to fame

Leaving a remembered name

But as one who served some need

With a timely, kindly deed

I would have my life be told

Not in glory nor in gold

Or in texts which squires read

Giving name and date and deed

Of dead men labeled great

Let mine be the lesser fate

Let me be of print unknown

Over my grave no towering stone

Sufficient that at my the end

To be mourned for as a friend

Say I did my best to share

Burdens my comrades had to bear

Seldom stayed to count the cost

Lest the chance to help be lost

If of me this can be said

Sweet my sleep when I am dead

A Song for Kadiya

Gentle daughter, gentle hand,

Breath soft upon the land,

Peace and hope, daughter bore,

For us she did go to war,

Land cleft with chaos, strife,

Evil to choke the last life,

War so terrible, battle hot,

Peace rose and gracefully fought,

Gentle daughter, gentle hand,

Breath soft upon the land,

For peace to war I would go,

The sacred way she did show,

Daughter, I would rise and shield,

Innocent lost on bloody field,

Protect you from what evil wrought,

I beg to take your doomed spot,

Gentle daughter, gentle hand,

Breath soft upon the land,

Solemn duty, meet death's device,

With love gave your sacrifice,

Deceit's cruel bloody hand,

Blood of peace spilt upon land,

Twisted trap did evil devise,

Daughter beset by all sides,

Gentle daughter, gentle hand,

Breath soft upon the land,

Peace and hope I will restore,

For Her I will go to war.

Knight, tempered for war, heavy toll,

Paid by lance and blood, heavy soul,

There within will your peace begin,

Grown from heart filled with devotion,

Unbroken faith to Goddess true,

Steady for Her, constant in view,

Seeing many, talents varied,

Unified, each virtue married,

Giving completely to brother,

Selflessness, to lift up another,

Treated with respect, hope, honesty,

Kindness grants courage plain to see,

Look within, anxiety dispelled,

Gone anger, hate, where fear had dwelled,

Live, strong and serene, undauntable,

Knight completed, tempered, peaceful soul.

Remembering Nadrik's Plight

Sun Feb 26 01:00:27 2012

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seems out of place, this ray of hope, where darkness shines and demons lope,

Where kneels the Lord of Honor, bound my Mischief, in His mortal plight.

Where, after treading eggs of brown, five gods of evil struck him down,

Then dragged and bound him to this place of darkest power, darkest might,

Where just this ray of hope shines 'gainst despair. with all its holy might,

It shines a most defiant light.

The Gods of Good considered going there, to rescue Nadrik, showing

Their most beloved kin that they would never bow to evil spite.

But, love for mortals held them back, for evil planned a deadly trap,

Wherein they would be poised to snuff the very Goodness with their blight,

And thus leave helpless every mortal, to a most unholy blight,

Whoso carries faith in light.

So, hard at work, Good Gods began to hatch a most ingenious plan:

Obtain the shards of Seanan's orb, and rescue Nadrik from His plight.

Herein the Gods of Good would place, in mortals, their immortal faith-

Those mortals who would sacrifice their lives to win the greatest fight.

Against the darkness, cold and cruel, these mortals wage the greatest fight,

To keep alive Lord Nadrik's light.

Darkness won the first three shards, to exaltations from their bards,

While Father Goodness winked at steel, which twitched and twisted and took flight,

Then plucked from within His own chest, an Arch Angel to lead light best,

To Love and Guide and Bleed for for Algoron that it may best this blight,

To rally good and gain the shards to save Lord Nadrik from this blight,

And win him safely back to light.

Thus, with every waking breath, we must conspire to foil the death

Of He, most holy of all fighters, patron god of each true Knight.

We must remember him and pray, to give him strength and hope, each day,

And send to him this ray of hope, that he may heal His wounds, and cope

With the despair of that bleak rock 'pon which is waged His greatest fight.

Their faith in us, we mortals, for our gods, must wage our greatest fight,

To save the Honor of the Light.

The High Clerist, Sir Caenarfon Corwen, Bishop of Nadrik, lead us in a discussion regarding what constitutes a Just war. A transcript may be found in the archives, here.

Redemption Won, a ballad of Sir Akasi Midnite

Black as night, the midnight hour,

A Knight who overcame evil's power,

Sir Akasi Midnite, Arithon's son,

A song of redemption won.

The Sun the Eclipse sought to devour,

So served Highlord and Keeper's flower,

Sunlit hair and eyes midnight blue,

Twisted nobles which only evil knew,

Trained their son to serve the Nightmare,

Daggers of the assassin was their heir,

Long in service extinguishing the sun,

Distinction in the dark armies won.

Marauder, Eclipse, against purist furor,

Evil deeds heavy upon their bearer,

Akasi cast all he knew aside,

Abandoning evil to roam outside,

Over land, hill and vale,

As a simple barbarian he did prevail,

Pledged his line ends with him,

Honor to wash away evil's sin,

Cleansed in long travels alone,

Finally to Gareth's Keep he did roam,

Sponsored by High Justice Aenarion,

He sought to see evil undone.

Humble Lance barbarian, needed a shower,

Prevailed through the darkest hour,

In Nadrik's service he found home,

Family, contentment he'd never known,

Acceptance into the divine,

A heart of gold free to shine,

A paladin of humor and grace,

Legendary crafter of staff and mace,

With him a bard rarely felt fear,

And he always appreciated the beer,

Exploring the world on whim,

To Shokono for spring rolls he would swim,

Late at night when evil sleeps,

Single handedly assaulting keeps,

For his comrades many good deeds done,

Most unwitting of the evil he had overcome.

Joy and love his new power,

Carry us all through our darkest hour,

Long service, consul wise and true,

He wore the Crown in Knighthood blue,

Knowledge and lore of the land,

Eager to lend a hand,

Rescued the Empress from the Roaring Boys,

With such humility he never made a noise,

Champion to those in need,

To his very last honorable deed,

The final sacrifice he did make,

Defending a comrade in frozen lake,

Sunlit Midnite, he did not return,

By our Gods a place he did earn,

Sir Akasi Midnite, Nadrik's son,

A song of redemption won.

A Kadiya Day Prayer

We gather here on this day to remember not only those of the fallen, but those that we surround ourselves with each and every day.

Let us pray for those that have paved our paths and forever remain in our memories for their deeds and words.

Let us pray for those that have shown us a future that we may strive towards, together. In remembrance of their actions and lessons that stretch across generations.

On this day, let us cherish all that we have now and keep with them in our memory as we take another step forward. Let us never forget that each step we take is a step they take as well for they will always be a part of us in all we do.

Amen.

- Sir Salinor Moraen, Bishop of Siccara
