Mt. Pilatus Golden Round Trip

We couldn't visit Switzerland without going up one of the many mountains that surround Lake Luzern. On Tuesday, Sept 29, 2009 we did the Mt. Pilatus Golden Round Trip. We took a scenic boat ride for 90 minutes to the base of the mountain. We had fabulous views of the green rolling hills and many mountains and nice houses that surround the Lake. Next, we took the steepest cograilway in the world to the top of Pilatus-Kulm. The rollercoaster climbed for 40 minutes and I kept waiting for the drop but thankfully it never came. We sat in the back so we had a lovely view down the moutntain.

Once we were at the top we had lunch and walked around the trails. We also had an amazingly clear view of the Swiss Alps.

Bellevue Hotel

(cost: 100 Swiss Franks per person per night)

View from the highest point of Mt. Pilatus. We sat here for a while because I was quite freaked out of the height. However, it was meditative to watch the cloud wisps rise from the valley and float above us like vapor.

We were up on the mountain until fairly late in the day and we even saw a helicopter land and take off again.

We took 2 gondolas to get back down the mountain. We took a fast gondola for about 5 minutes and then we took a 25 minute gondola that made a stop at the 1.4 Km toboggan run.
