Wabamun Geocaching

The first time we found a geocache while camping, we were at the Red Lodge campsite and we crossed the river to find a geocache in May 2009. This year, we went camping at Wabamun. We found 4 geocaches and also hid one geocache-Wabamun Duck Hunt. It's near the lake and contains the trackable item Camping Duck.

The first cache we found The Wabamun Triangle Point A was in the town of Wabamun up a little hill near the town center. We found this cache on our way to Home Hardware to buy propane for our camping stove (you always forget one thing when you're going camping).

The second cache we found Feature Creature - Water Strider was just down from our campsite in Birch. I love bridge caches. This is probably our third or fourth bridge cache.

We found the third cache Feature Creature - Pileated Woodpecker with Colin's cousin and his sister. There were quite a few prickly bushes that we had to trek through to get to this cache but that's a typical Alberta forest. We traded a knot tying kit for a duck pen in this cache.

Our fourth and last cache of the weekend was Back Gate Library which is a perfect cache to visit if you forgot to bring a book camping or are ready to exchange your book for a new one. The books are hidden in a nice big ammo can (which are always a pleasure to find and a bit easier since they are so large.

I highly recommend camping at Wabumun Lake if you like geocaching. There are many caches within walking distance of the campsite.
