Antique hunting at Yasukuni Shrine

Post date: 06-Dec-2009 15:46:21

Colin and I went treasure hunting at the Yasukuni Shrine in hopes of finding some tea utensils and sword hilts. We lucked out and found both. The fall atmosphere of the market was beautiful. Tall Ginkgo Bilobas (Japan's National Tree) shined like a neon yellow bar sign along the edge of the market. The leaves fell on the objects for sale as vendors hastily removed them from the antiques.

Colin's treasures: a sword hilt (that I found for him with my keen shopping eye) and an old map. I bought my bamboo whisk for making matcha powder green tea. I really wanted the rest of the cha-doghu (tea utensils) but the powder scoops were 500 yen and the tea bowls and powder keepers were priced at 100.00 cdn. They were quite beautiful though.

We spent the afternoon in Harajuku hoping to see people dressed in cosplay (dressing up as your fave anime/movie/video game character), but it was a bit cold so we only saw a few people.

We stood in a long line( that was definitely worth it) to buy these dessert crepes. They had a pieces of cheese cake in them to!
